About Water.org
Water.org,
a U.S.-based non-governmental organization working to increase access
to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Water.org has been in operation
since 1990, implementing sustainable and scalable water and sanitation
programs in conjunction with local NGOs and financial institutions.
Water.org has pioneered its WaterCredit initiative over the last several
years, which works by building the capacity of carefully selected local
financial institutions to offer affordable financing for water and
sanitation facilities. WaterCredit programs support financial
institutions through a combination
of financial assistance and technical support.
Since
2003, Water.org has implemented WaterCredit programs with 35 partner
financial institutions, facilitating 250,000 water and sanitation loans
totaling over $47 million. Water.org is in the process of launching
programs in Indonesia and seeks to build relationships with a broad
range of financial institutions (microfinance institutions, commercial
banks, BPRs, cooperatives).
Description Water.org
seeks a highly skilled and highly motivated WaterCredit Officer to
support its growing portfolio of WASH microfinance programs in
Indonesia. This full-time position will be based in Jakarta with regular
travel throughout Indonesia. The WaterCredit Officer will report to the
Indonesia Country Director. She/he will work closely with Indonesia and
U.S.-based Water.org staff.
Major responsibilities include:
i.
Develop opportunities for new WaterCredit programs in DKI, West Java,
Central Java, East Java and other locations among existing and new
partner organizations (financial institutions, non-governmental
organizations, and other parties).
ii. Conduct outreach among financial institutions regarding the potential for WaterCredit.
iii. Participate in certification of new partner organizations that can implement WaterCredit programs.
iv.
Participate in the design of new WaterCredit programs, including
planning and budgeting of necessary product development and launch
activities such as market research, product pilot, product marketing and
coordination with WASH stakeholders.
v. Participate in identifying potential sources of
funding and investment for new WaterCredit programs for partners.
vi.
Manage ongoing WaterCredit programs in partnership with the Indonesia
and U.S.-based staff, including program and financial management,
partner development, and program evaluations.
vii. Develop and
manage information resources to track program performance, enhance
WaterCredit activities, and support the mission of Water.org.
Detailed Tasks :
The
WaterCredit Officer will support WaterCredit partners to achieve their
work plan implementation in providing microfinance loans for
constructing water and sanitation facilities, including the following
tasks:
- Work closely with partners to ensure timely program implementation according to the budget and work plan.
- Monitor the implementation of program activities on the weekly/biweekly and monthly basis.
- Identify and address any constraints affecting program activities.
- Help expand the program to new Water Credit partners through exchange visits, sharing best practices to improve microcredit services for household water/sanitation facilities.
- Help to organize community and partner trainings about health, hygiene, water and sanitation microcredit, and construction and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities.
- Track and report information related program implementation including partner activities, expenditures and loan portfolio.
- Support partner coordination with water and sanitation service providers such as PDAMs, community based organizations and SMEs.
- Ensure partner submission of high quality program reporting, and effective transfer of information to Water.org databases, U.S.-based colleagues, and donors.
- Act as a regular liaison between Water.org, partner financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate with local governments, NGOs, donors, MFIs/banks, community leaders to arrange relevant activities.
- Other duties as required by Supervisor.
Professional Qualifications
- Demonstrated record of outstanding academic and career achievement
- Background in project management, microfinance, and/or water/sanitation
- Familiarity with basic microfinance concepts, lending methodologies, and sector trends, particularly financial product development
- Familiarity with basic concepts in water, sanitation and hygiene
- Excellent verbal and written communications, management, leadership, teamwork, networking, budgeting, and problem solving skills
- Experience with databases, advanced Excel skills, and basic literacy in other MS Office packages
- Critical thinking, creativity, good judgment, initiative, attention to detail, and professionalism
- Proven track record proactively identifying challenges and developing innovative solutions
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results working in a small team
Other Requirements
- At least five years of relevant experience with microfinance institutions, water and sanitation organizations, and/or related organizations
- Experience reporting to and working with institutional donors in the international development arena, particularly with respect to water/sanitation and microfinance
- Project management experience
- Strong desire to contribute to increased access to water and sanitation
- Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English required
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field
- Willingness to travel
