Project HOPE is recruiting a Laboratory Specialist for an upcoming Lab Strengthening program. 
 
The Laboratory Specialist will provide overall technical direction to the Program.  The Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for leading the formulation of  a National Laboratory strategy as well as developing annual and detailed plans to meet overall objectives of on-going programs related to Strengthening the Laboratory Network. S/he will be responsible for building staff, partner and counterpart capacity to implement relevant activities working closely with appropriate staff members. S/he will provide technical direction to the staff and counterparts in Laboratory matters including producing of Standard Operating procedure (SoPs) and infection control policies for laboratory settings as appropriate for the particular level of laboratories.

Qualifications:  
Education:  Laboratory Doctor or Medical Doctor (or equivalent)

Experience:  At least 7 years working in a laboratory with at least two years as a supervisor

Knowledge:  Must know: a. laboratory methods, necessary equipment and supplies and laboratory organization for all levels of laboratories in a National TB Laboratory Network.  b. about all record forms, record keeping procedures, reporting requirements and the program-monitoring value of on-time, accurate, and reliable reports.  c. the biological, chemical and physical laboratory hazards; safeguards and accident responses.  d. know procedures for specimen collection and transport.

Language:  Must be able to converse, read and write in the English Language and be familiar with common English scientific terminology; conversational knowledge of English desirable; local language capability an advantage

Leadership: encouraging good performance in others, communicating proper procedures according to WHO recommendations and problem solving.

Training:  Must be able to schedule and conduct own work without direct supervision. Must be able to conduct effective training (individual and classroom).
