High Carbon Stock Project Manager (HCS)

Description

The successful candidate will have experience in land use planning, GIS mapping, forest inventory, participatory mapping and will be articulate and well-organized, and passionate about environmental and social issues.

The HCS forest conservation approach a practical, scientifically robust and cost effective methodology for palm oil or forest plantation development without causing deforestation. The approach categorizes land areas into 6 vegetation strata using satellite photos and correlating with measurements of carbon in the above ground biomass, allowing areas with High Carbon Stock (HCS, i.e. forests) to be distinguished from degraded areas with lower carbon stock that are potentially available for plantation development. The approach is designed a practical land use planning tool; it is not a carbon assessment such as for carbon accounting.

The position is full-time and based in either TFT’s Jakarta or Semarang office with frequent travel required.

·         Coordinate the HCS team to execute all relevant stages of the HCS process on a partner by partner basis.

·         Report writing, meeting documentation and communications

·         Clear reports submitted according to deadlines, written in professional business language (Bahasa and English) and requiring minimum editing before submitting to clients.

·         Strong rapport and strategic collaboration with TFT palm oil program staff.

·         Staffs are often required to work outside office hours to fulfill the duties of employment.

·         This position will require regular meetings with leaders in large, multi-national corporations, as well as travelling extensively in Indonesia and/or South East Asia to visit palm oil plantations and forests. For this reason, the Project Manager should be prepared to work in both corporate and field settings.
