Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is looking for qualified candidates for the position of a GIS OFFICER to join our team in Jambi, Indonesia.

Description of the position:
Frankfurt Zoological Society’s Bukit Tigapuluh Landscape
Conservation Program offers a position for a qualified candidate as “GIS Officer”. The successful candidate will be based in Jambi City/Sumatra working in a small highly motivated team. Part of the job is occassional visits to
the field inside and surround the Bukit Tigapuluh Landscape. The GIS OFFICER Term
of Reference and Job
Requirements are as follows:
Terms of Reference:
1. Collects primary and secondary geospatial data of
Bukit Tigapuluh Landscape. The primary data is usually from field/GPS
observation while the secondary data which consist of topographic and thematic maps,
satellite images, etc can be taken from relevant organizations such as
government institutions, international organizations, reliable internet sources, etc.
2. Processes satellite imageries for tematic
analysis.
3. Produces topographic and thematic maps
specifically for FZS projects’ and FZS’ partner organizations’ needs including map
animations, GPS maps, Survey maps, Google Earth
files, etc.
4. Writes reports and prepares presentations of
geographical (spatial and ecological) analyses of Bukit Tigapuluh
Landscape.
5. Involves and represents FZS in Bukit Tigapuluh
Landscape and Jambi and Riau Provinces spatial planning discussions, meetings,
conferences, etc.
6. Maintains good relationship with partner and
donor/funding organizations and writes proposals to get the spatial data and
software if needed.
7. Manages geospatial databases of the Wildlife Protection Unit, orangutan survey and radio telemetry data, and others spatial data.
8. Provides map for survey
team.
9.
Trains GIS and remote sensing techniques to other staffs and in FZS
initiated trainings, workshops, etc.
10. Attends all trainings provided by FZS for the GIS
Officer.
Job Requirements:
1.
Bachelor Degree (S1) of Geography, Forestry, Landscape Ecology,
Environmental Science, or any relevant fields – also opened
for fresh graduate.
2.
Understand basic and advanced
GIS, remote sensing, and navigation techniques.
3.
Able to operate GIS softwares (especially ESRI ArcGIS and other Freeware GIS : Quantum GIS) and Image Processing Softwares (ENVI/ERMapper,
Global Mapper).
4.
Understand and able to use Global Positioning System and its softwares.
5.
Highly initiatives, able to work with no or little supervision.
6.
Able to work alone or in teams.
7.
Proficient in both English and Indonesian candidate is preferred.
[Very
good writing ability in English and Indonesian Language is a plus.]
8.
Willing to relocate to Jambi City.
9.
Willing to travel to the forests and remote areas in Bukit Tigapuluh Landscape for field survey.
10. Able to
work under pressure.
11. Good interpersonal skills.
12. Initiative, Hardworking and willing to learn a
new experience.
For the successful candidate, FZS will provide :
1.
Ticket/ Transportation from Jakarta to Jambi just for the first arrival.
2.
Communal accomodation (mess) during in Jambi.
