Communications Consultant 
 
The Global Broadband and Innovations Program (GBI) is an alliance between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and NetHope dedicated to advancing the deployment and use of broadband communications networks, including enhanced mobile networks. GBI works to leverage the extension of such networks for delivery of network-enabled support across USAID’s development portfolio, including Mobile Financial Services (MFS). As part of GBI’s work, NetHope has been selected to staff and manage an MFS implementation Unit, e-MITRA, in Indonesia to help support further development of a robust MFS ecosystem. The program is designed to assist in the development of strategies that lead to the growth and scale of MFS platforms in Indonesia, provide concrete tools to create MFS strategies and, ultimately, help drive momentum for private sector offerings of economically viable MFS products. e-MITRA implements work streams in technical assistance, advisory services, partnership brokering, market research and market awareness (e.g. workshops, social media, etc.)
 
e-MITRA is looking for a part-time communications consultant to help with their communications activities and materials. The position to be based in Jakarta is available immediately for an eight month contract, with the possibility of renewal.
 
 
Position Summary:
The part-time Communications Consultant is responsible for preparing communications material for both traditional and social media, repurposing and formatting content for different outlets, coordinating publication of materials, translating materials (between English and Bahasa Indonesia) and disseminating content via a variety of outlets.
 
Position Duration:
The part-time consultant position is available immediately. Current contract period through September 2014, with possibility for renewal. The e-MITRA project currently is projected to end June 2015.

Essential Consultant Functions:  
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
·          Research, write, edit and proofread a broad range of print, audio-visual, interactive, web-based outreach and other support materials related to e-MITRA’s work and also the MFS sector
 
·          Produce a bi-monthly e-MITRA newsletter based on project activities.
 
·          Collaborate on the writing, design, formatting and production of print, audio-visual (both photographic as well as short project-oriented full-motion videos), presentation and web-based products.
 
·          Liaise with the e-MITRA project team to help design, create and maintain project website, including social media outreach.
 
·          Translate documents and publications (e.g. news articles, reports, etc.) from Bahasa Indonesia to English and from English to Bahasa Indonesia
 
·          Convert print products into online products, post and make available through various web outlets.
 
·          Assist with planning and implementing seminars, workshops and events.
 
·          Develop and maintain knowledge database to track press and publications of MFS in Indonesia.
 
·          Manage creation of a program video
 
·          Create a photo depository (get releases etc.)
 
And all other duties assigned as necessary.

Education:  
Bachelor of Arts degree in one of the following or related fields: Communications, English, International Communications, International Development, International Relations, Journalism or equivalent job-related combination of education and work experience.
 
Experience:  
5 or more years of relevant experience required.
Specific Knowledge Requirements:
Knowledge of mobile technology and other communications technologies preferred.
Five (5) years relevant work experience in a position that regularly required the applicant to write for an external audience (5 samples of work required).
Experience with both traditional and social media.
Special Requirements:  
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
 
Skills:  
Superior organizational skills and acute attention to detail.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a succinct, clear and persuasive manner.
Ability to learn and apply new skills, knowledge and information easily with routine training.
Ability to translate from Bahasa Indonesia to English and vice versa proficiently (written and verbal).
Ability to work in a small office, telecommute and interface with a global team based in Jakarta and the U.S..
Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel), social media tools and meta-tools (such as Wordpress.com, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, TweetDeck, and HootSuite) and social media metric tools (such as Radian6, TweetReach, TweetLevel, TwitterSearch), webinar platforms (such as AdobeConnect or WebEx) and e-mail.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, prioritize and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines; motivation and willingness to take initiative and full responsibility for selected activities.

Equipment To Be Used:
Consultant must provide his or her own computer and communications equipment.
Part-Time Work:
Consultant should be available a few hours per day for assignments. Consultant can work in a ‘family-friendly’ environment while children are in school.
Travel and Geography:
Local travel is a possibility.
