Overview
One of CIFOR’s core research themes is on enhancing the role of forests in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Forests and Livelihoods Portfolio is one of three portfolios at CIFOR that contribute to this research theme.
The research officer will be part of a climate research team and will support scientists in the Livelihoods Portfolio. He/she will perform a variety of tasks contributing to both research and project management.

The research officer will be part of a climate research team and will support scientists in the Livelihoods Portfolio. He/she will perform a variety of tasks contributing to both research and project management.
Duties and responsibilities
1) Research:
- Assist the leader of Module 2 in coordinating overall fieldwork and research at 23 study sites in six countries
- Participate in the Research Design and Editorial Committee
- Manage databases in Access and MS Excel
- Assist in managing the Survey of Project Implementation database
- Conduct statistical analysis, background literature searches, and writing to support the preparation of M2 research results/reports/presentations
- Check and clean data in collaboration with country teams
- Serve as lead author for one or two publications
- Co-supervise a research assistant
- Conduct research interviews as required
- Coordinate with the project administrator to ensure all M2 lists are up to date
- Manage data requests from heads of country teams
- Participate in fieldwork as required
- Maintain regular communications with proponents, key stakeholders and partners. These may include local and national government agencies, environment and development organizations, social advocacy NGOs, private companies, and donor organizations
- Assist in other research activities as required.
- Manage Memoranda of Cooperation governing relations with REDD+ collaborators
- Assist in reporting to donors
- Manage Module 2 data sharing and confidentiality agreements and update as necessary.
- Assist in organizing international/regional/national workshops, trainings or field work as required
- Take minutes of meetings and do translations
- Other project management activities as required.
- Master’s degree in social sciences, economics, forestry or environmental sciences
- Strong skills in quantitative/statistical analysis required
- Familiarity with MS Access and other statistical software (Excel)
- Minimum of one year of working experience in international organizations preferred but not essential
- Good English language skills, both oral and written, are essential
- Familiarity with forests and climate change/REDD+ is helpful but not required
- Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to work in a team.
- Competent in personal organization and priority setting, with the ability to work effectively under time pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrates initiative, capable of working independently and as an effective team player
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with people in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment
- Experience working with a wide and diverse network of groups and individuals.
- This is a nationally recruited position. CIFOR offers a competitive remuneration commensurate with skills and experience.
- The initial contract is for 2 years with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of this position, and available resources. The position is based in Bogor, Indonesia.
