Currently we are searching for a qualified candidate to fill the position of:
COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
The
Communications Coordinator is responsible for formulating and executing
conservation awareness and education campaigns in the Raja Ampat
Regency and wider Bird’s Head Seascape, to help
local stakeholders understand the ecological and economic importance of
marine protected areas (MPAs) and wider marine conservation issues.
S/he is the primary interface with the media for the Bird’s Head
Seascape.
The
Communications Coordinator, in coordination with the Marketing and
Communications Associate Director, will develop and implement a three
year communication and media relations strategy
in the Bird’s Head Seascape to implement with relevant partners. S/he
develops and implements media and public relations plans that support
provincial, regency or country programs, cultivates local/regional print
and broadcast media & publicizes priority conservation
issues, manages both reactive and proactive media contacts as assigned
and makes use of print, broadcast and electronic media to secure
placements. The position develops messaging and materials for special
projects, events and issues and has primary responsibility
for writing outreach materials in support of the program as well as
coordinating releases from the Marketing & Communications
Department. S/he will manage crisis communications when called upon, and
act as spokesperson for the Conservancy at the discretion
of the Marketing and Communications Associate Director. S/he will
regularly provide the Marketing and Communications Department with
quarterly stories from the field, bimonthly photos for central photo
bank and information materials as necessary (e.g. leaflets,
infosheets, film, etc.).
In
coordination with the field outreach teams, s/he explains the importance
of protecting and conserving the area’s flora and fauna and develops
campaign slogans and materials to this end,
in line with the program’s goals and objectives. S/he will research,
write/edit and produce a wide range of communications materials,
including fact sheets, brochures, study guides, newsletters, magazine
articles, slide shows and multimedia presentations and
web content. S/he will coordinate external presentations and public
events and provide on-the-job training and capacity building to outreach
teams as well as government and non-government partners. S/he supports
annual work planning and budgeting as well as
submission of periodic financial reports, and communication reports.
S/He will support senior managers with the development and maintenance
of key TNC partnerships, and building constituents that support MPAs and
their effective management. While implementing
the work plan, s/he monitors progress and proposes adaptations of the
work plan to supervisors if required.
The Communications Coordinator reports to the Papua Bird’s Head Portfolio Manager and is based in Sorong.
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing or related field and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination

Experience with word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software

Experience with writing, editing, proofreading, and with verbal communications

Experience cultivating and managing client relationships

Experience in project and account management

Supervisory experience
Requirements:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, or related field; 5-7 years’ experience implementing media relations programs and measuring results. Public relations agency experience desirable

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with both clients and media representatives

Demonstrated initiative with ability to handle multi-faceted media environment

Excellent oral and written communication skills in Bahasa Indonesian and English

Excellent organizational and proof-reading skills

Demonstrated experience in MS Office, Word and Excel. Ability to use advanced computer functions including navigating the Internet

Experience in media and marketing team environments

Ability to supervise, set goals & expectations and manage staff performance
