The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. GAIN is
a Swiss based international organization that mobilizes public-private
partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver
nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition. The
organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated 670
million people in more than 30 countries, half of whom are women and
children. Nutrition products are as varied as fortified cooking oil and
iodized salt in Indonesia, flour in Africa, soy sauce in China and
biscuits in India, as well as specialized products for infant and young
child nutrition, and interventions to protect the most vulnerable
affected by emergencies or chronic illness.
SENIOR ADVISOR, NUTRITION, MONITORING & EVALUATION
The
Senior Advisor Nutrition and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) will
oversee development and implementation of the monitoring plans of each
implementing partner, as well as ensure coordination between the
research consortium and the implementing partners, in coordination with
the focal points in Indonesia, Singapore and Geneva. After development
the role will require routine monitoring and reporting of activity
progress by implementing partners, the research consortium, coordination
and contracting of surveys, and capacity building in M&E among
implementing partners, in line with GAIN’s Indonesia country strategy.
S/he
will also ensure that M&E lessons learnt from Indonesia’s projects
get incorporated in GAIN’s broader knowledge building, advocacy and
strategy development, to improve efficiency, effectiveness and impact of
GAIN’s programs, and influencing other stakeholders through results
dissemination in publications, case studies, workshops and other fora.
Responsibilities:
- Represent GAIN among Indonesia nutrition stakeholders, and disseminate lessons learnt through publications, policy briefings, case studies, and presentations at key forums and meetings.
- Provide technical input on nutrition issues and operational assistance to implementing partners of GAIN’s projects in Indonesia, including on survey protocols, questionnaires, data analysis and reporting, ensuring milestones are met, reviewing progress reports and advise on disbursements of funds.
- For the Maternal Infant and & Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) integrated nutrition/health project, oversee and manage overall project and partner-specific M&E, including, alignment of M&E plans for each implementing partner with project-level Key Performance Indicators and targets, ensuring timely and good-quality routine activity progress monitoring and reporting by implementing partners.
- Facilitating the MIYCN impact evaluation study which will be contracted to an independent research consortium and ensure coordination and alignment between implementing partners and contracted research consortium.
- Support performance management and funding decisions throughout program design and implementation stages.
- Supervise internships of MSc students working on smaller embedded studies.
- Support annual work and budget planning, and resource mobilization for the Indonesia portfolio of projects.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in nutrition sector.
- Proven publication track record – both peer-reviewed and grey publications
- Experience in program M&E and/or operations research, including the development and operationalization of project M&E frameworks and plans;
- Experience in performance management of nutrition, child health programs ;
- Excellent understanding of quantitative and qualitative research and analysis;
Skills & Attributes:

- Strong communicator, able to work effectively as part of a multicultural team;

Education:
- Masters or higher in Nutrition / Food Technology or related fields.
- Training or practical experience with designing and implementing M&E plans, use of log-frame
Other requirements:
- Experience in managing local issues in Indonesia and multi-stakeholder environments
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) and scientific report writing
- Ability to use MS Excel
- Be available to travel within Indonesia across all GAIN project locations to provide technical assistance, as well as internationally to other GAIN offices and partners
