Lowongan Economist, Green Growth Planning - Jakarta & Kalimantan

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is hiring an outstanding macro-economist to support their programme in East and Central Kalimantan.

GGGI is dedicated to helping governments and industry pioneers to explore a new model of economic growth: green growth. Economics, and in particular the economics of resource productivity and development, is at the core of GGGI’s approach. While GGGI adopts a set of multi-disciplinary methodologies, economic tools are crucial to assess the suitability of green growth policy and investment in achieving the economic and development objectives of their partner countries.

Reporting into the Country Director, you will lead the macro-economic modeling and assessment in the province of East and Central Kalimantan with the aim of mainstreaming green growth into the planning processes. Based in Bappenas or Bappeda, you will also work closely with the Chief Economist on all economic work.

Responsibilities include:
  • Working closely with the GGGI representatives based in Samarinda and Palangka Raya
  • Supporting the provincial government in shaping their green growth planning
  • Developing close relationships with the provincial and district level government agencies
  • Supporting these agencies to assess the baseline implications of the current economic strategy, as well as identifying opportunities for key green growth projects and policies
  • Connecting provincial government agencies with GGGI’s green growth expertise
  • Helping to facilitate capacity building and the active participation of key stakeholders
  • Involvement in the provincial policy design and implementation support
  • Managing public and private sector stakeholder engagement in the two provinces
  • Knowledge sharing across the organisation
As the successful individual, you will appreciate the importance of creating government ownership of all analytical assessments and outputs under these work steams.
Key competencies include:
  • Exemplary and relevant academic credentials, including economics
  • A detailed understanding of the economy and economic strategy at a provincial level in Indonesia
  • Experience of macro-economic modeling and assessments, and an understanding of the linkages to environmental and climate issues, and REDD+ programmes
  • Experience of working with government, including the government of Indonesia
  • The ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with leaders from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated track record of working in multi-disciplinary teams, in a complex organisational context
  • Fluent written and verbal in English
  • Flexibility to travel between Jakarta and Kalimantan
The successful individual will have the unique opportunity to work within a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial organisation who strongly believes in empowering their staff to grow professionally and personally.
