Conservation International, an international non-governmental organization, is seeking to fill 2 positions of:

FIELD PROJECT OFFICER base in Medan & Pakpak Bharat, North Sumatra

The sustainable agriculture landscape project focuses on the newly declared Pakpak Bharat Regency, an area encompassing of 122,130 hectares in the Lake Toba watershed in North Sumatra Province. Agriculture is the main livelihood of the local farmers and corn is a key crop for both commercial and small-scale producers. Overall, the agriculture sector accounts for over 65 percent of the Regency’s GDP. However, limited access to agricultural resources and training, combined with hilly terrain and poor soil fertility all contribute to sub-optimal agricultural productivity in the region. The project will identify the risks and opportunities that presents in agricultural production in the Regency. This project, Producing More, Conserving More and Improving Farmers’ Lives in North Sumatra, Indonesia, is to support the development of a healthy,sustainable economy in Pakpak Bharat Regency based on improving agricultural production, conserving biodiversity and maintaining ecosystem services, and enhancing the livelihoods of local farmers.

Responsibilities:
Data collection and analysis for assessment
  • Collect important information such as livelihood information, agricultural practices, crops productivity, Ecological information, etc. for the baseline data of the project. Data collection will include primary and secondary data (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Support the manager in analyzing this information and in producing the assessment reports.
Community and government engagement
  • Understands the crucial role of community and government in the project.
  • Encourages active participation of these stakeholders, 
  • Communicate and engage them in each activity for the success of the project
Program implementation
  • Participate in all scope of project activities which includes a series of assessment, crops cultivation, biodiversity conservation, maintaining ecosystem services, agricultural product marketing
  • Community and government engagement.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Participate in developing monitoring and evaluation tools and guidelines. 
  • Responsible in the collection of data for monitoring purposes
Reporting
  • Deliver a monthly report to the project manager.
  • Take part in producing the assessment reports and other related reports. The participation may include provision of additional data or information and contributes to some parts of the reports 
Qualifications:
Required 
  • A degree or equivalent experience in agriculture, forestry, geography or related fields, with 3-5 years of relevant experiences in agriculture and conservation projects.
  • Experience with annual crops, preferably corn, with small and/or large scale farming systems. 
  • Experience in effectively working with government, NGO, and private sectors. 
  • Demonstrate strong facilitation and communication skills. 
  • Commitment to conserving biodiversity and implementing sustainable agriculture initiatives
Preferred
  • Working experience and good knowledge of local contexts (Pakpak Bharat, Karo and Dairi Regencies)
  • Understanding of anticipated impacts of climate change upon agriculture and climate change adaptation measures. 
  • Strong interest in environmental issues and eagerness to expand knowledge. 
  • Computer skills and experience in relevant software. 
  • The preferred candidate will be self-motivated, and be able to meet project 
  • Willingness to travel and stay in the region.
  • Knowledge on restoration of degraded areas, forestry, agroforestry, silvopastoral systems and payment for ecosystem service programs 
  • Familiarity with geographic information systems
