Save the Children is an international non-profit organization that
focuses on the fulfillment of children’s right. Save the Children was
first established in May 1919 in the U.K. and to date has 28 Save the
Children Offices and operations in more than 120 countries worldwide. 1n
1976, Save the Children signed an MoU with the Ministry of Social
Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, followed then by the operations of
Save the Children throughout Indonesia. Currently, Save the Children
work in 11 provinces with a variety of program areas, such as:
Education, Health and Sanitation, Livelihood, Child Protection also
Disaster Risk Reduction.
Save the Children is committed in conducting its programs in a way that is safe for children beneficiaries and to help protect children with whom Save the Children in a relationship. As a humanitarian organization, Save the Children is obliged to create and maintain an environment to prevent any sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children as well as to promote the implementation of child safety policies.
Save the Children currently implementing Better Literacy for Academic Result (BELAJAR) [1]. And Save & Positive Education for Children in Indonesia with Active Learning [2]. The project results is aims to improve early and primary education among pre-school and primary students in Belu and Malaka, NTT in Indonesia. Save the Children will implement BELAJAR AND SPECIAL 4 with communities, educators, and the District Government. It will complement ongoing Save the Children health and nutrition, and humanitarian responses projects, build evidence, and leverage Government of Indonesia contributions.
BELAJAR is a three-year project (8 April 2013 to 7 April 2016) funded by New Zealand Government’s Aid Programme.
SPECIAL 4 is one-year project (1 September 2013 to 31 August 2014) funded by BVLGARI.
The position we are looking for is:
Project Assistant (code: PA-SPECIAL4), 1 position, based in Betun, NTT
The Project Assistant for SPECIAL 4 will support Project Officer and Senior Project Officer in implementing all activities of the SPECIAL 4 project in Malaka District, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) province. This will include ensuring all program activities are implemented according to plan and at a high-level of quality; all reporting and planning is completed; all communications are completed in a timely and accurate manner; coordination with key external stakeholders; all child safeguarding controls are enforced; and financial and administrative management adheres to Save the Children and donor policies, regulations, and good practices.
The Safe and Positive Education for Children in Indonesia with Active Learning (SPECIAL) 4 project builds on the achievements and lessons learned from previous SPECIAL project in the Maluku, Aceh, and Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) provinces to further contribute to improving the quality of education for thousands Indonesia’s most vulnerable children. SPECIAL 4 will work with children ages 4-9 by improving access to Early Childhood Education (ECE) and primary school protective and well-equipped learning environments. It will compliment improved access by also improving the quality of instruction among educators (teachers, tutors, and principals) and enhancing community awareness of, commitment to, and participation in education. It will also influence local education policy in the new Malaka district in NTT province, and incorporates a specific methodology for scale-up and promotion in non-targeted areas.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversight and Management of Program Implementation and Quality
· Work closely with teachers/tutors, principals, school committees, and other stakeholders to implement project activities according to the established project workplan.
· Assist and Facilitate in training and mentoring education stakeholders on improving the quality of education in communities.
· Assist team in Advocacy purpose–in coordination with line manager--, with stakeholders in the target areas to ensure the adoption of Save the Children approaches to quality basic education for marginalised children.
· Facilitate activities to increase access to ECE including physical improvements in infrastructure and educational materials.
· Work closely with communities to ensure their active participation and acceptance of the project.
· Participate in project monitoring and school visit, to provide information on the project implementation.
· Develop daily and weekly planning to assist team in running the project.
· Assist team to develop report by providing data and documentation including human interest story.
· Assist team to support local master trainer in cascading training and meeting.
· Ensure close collaboration with local stakeholders including establishing and developing strong and effective relationships with school staffs, school committee, parents and children.
· Capacity in working with children.
Financial and Administrative Management
· Assist team in coordinate with the Finance and Logistic unit in Belu Sub Office to produce accurate and timely financial reports
· In coordination with Project Officer, handling related to administration and financial report of Malaka implementation activities
· Assist team in planning, preparation and distribution logistic in relation to teaching aids and school material.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Skill
· Bachelors University Degree or equivalent in a relevant field
· Ability to work with minimum supervision
· Ability to work with children
· Computer literate
· Able to drive a motorcycle
* Fluency in written and spoken Indonesian, strong English written and spoken skills
* Ability in local language will be a plus
* Ability and willingness to travel outside Malaka District or NTT Province
Experience and Knowledge:
· Experienced in working with INGO or NGO
* Previous experience working with local governments
* Knowledge of the local context and understand local language is a plus
· Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches
* Good knowledge and ability to work to work with community
* Good knowledge of development issues
* Good understanding of children’s issues in Indonesian context
* Good understanding of the Indonesia education systems
