Position Overview
Rare seeks a dynamic Development Officer to join the Indonesia team, which is responsible for leading Rare’s programs in Indonesia, Timor Leste, and Malaysia. This role works very closely with the region’s program development team, Regional VP, and Rare’s global development staff. This role provides an exceptional opportunity to learn about both conservation program development and building the case for funding.

The Regional Development Officer is new to this team within Rare, and candidates should bring an entrepreneurial spirit and an appetite for working in a fluid environment to help support the team. The position reports to the Regional Vice President and will collaborate with the Global development team, other Regional Development Officers, Regional VPs, finance, and other regional program teams.

Responsibilities

* Manage relationship with donors (public funding, foundation donors, and others)
* Manage relationship with government at central and district level
* Manage proposal development for public donors by working with team members on program design, proposal writing, and budgeting;
* Lead proposal writing and editing;
* Develop and implement strategies to identify new funding for Rare Bogor programs in development as well as current programs;
* Represent Rare, the regional team at donor events, meetings, conferences as necessary and needed,
* Build and update regional resources for public donor management and proposal development.
* Set up and manage a cultivation strategy for potential funding sources for current and future regional programs;
* Be aware of and ensure compliance with donor requirements in all communications and submissions to donors—provide compliance quality checks to proposals before they are submitted.

Qualifications

* At least 7 years of relevant experience required; of that time, 2-4 years professional writing experience helpful;
* Previous experience working on public and private fundraising, working with public donors and other funding institutions;
* Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills;
* Highly organized and able to manage timelines involving multiple inputs under tight deadlines;
* Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
* Strong communication and presentation skills;
* Research and interview experience;
* Persistent self-starter, able to achieve results with little supervision;
* Diplomatic, flexible and able to adapt to new circumstances;
* Program experience/interest in conservation or international development issues preferred;
* Fundraising and/or marketing experience important; experience with one or more public donors desired;
* Familiarity with proposal budgeting;
* Bahasa Indonesia and English language fluency (writing and speaking) required;
* Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software;
* Relevant bachelor's degree (master’s preferred).
