Vacancy at CI Indonesia - Natural Resource Economist (NRE) - Based in Jakarta

Conservation International, an international non-governmental organization, is seeking to fill the Position of Natural Resource Economist (NRE) - Based in Jakarta.
The Sustainable Landscapes Partnership (SLP) program will establish a replicable model of public-private partnerships that foster low carbon development opportunities, thereby helping to address global climate change and contribute to economic growth. The SLP will combine public (USAID) and private philanthropic (Walton Family Foundation) funding into an initial $20 million Facility focused on catalyzing low carbon private sector investment in specific landscapes of high conservation value in Indonesia over a five-year period. This Facility will invest in low carbon and Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) development activities and business models that seek to reduce or eliminate deforestation and associated CO2 emissions.

The primary job function of this position is to conduct and support natural resource economic and related analyses.  A key target is the design of strategies that contribute to development objectives through better incorporation of nature into decision-making (i.e., correction of market failures related to the environment). The position will report directly to the SLP Chief-of-Party but will coordinate closely on technical details with the relevant CI-HQ personnel.  It is expected that the NRE will also do economic analysis of the proof of concept for business investment decisions prior to recommendations being made. For SLP project sites, the Natural Resource Economist (NRE) directs valuation studies assessing cash and non-cash contributions of natural capital to the local and regional economy (e.g., non-timber forest products, water flows, pollination, cultural services), as well as assessments of the scope for payment for ecosystem services.

  • Direct engagement/support of senior staff engagement with decision makers, publication, presentations.
  • Assist in proposal development for fundraising
  • Participation in institutional learning efforts on green economies
Qualification:
Required:
