REI - Media and Communications Officer

REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

In 2013, Islands of Southeast Asia Network on Male and Transgender Sexual Health (ISEAN) has received funding from the Robert Carr Fund through Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health (APCOM) on the project “APCOM CCC (Communications Cause Change) Project 2013-2015”. This project will primarily cover the capital cities across the ISEAN member countries on phase 1 which will end in December 2013. This position has the possibility of extension subject to performance evaluation and availability of funds.



As the ISEAN Media and Communications Officer, you will be working under the direct supervision of the ISEAN Regional Program Manager (RPM) and in close collaboration with the communications team of the Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health (APCOM). You will be responsible for following activities:
  1. Source and manage new and relevant content this is aligned with ISEAN mission, vision and goals for publication on ISEAN’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc); 
  2. Keep relevant stakeholders informed of ISEAN progress with respect to the network’s 5 year Strategic Plan;  
  3. Monitoring media coverage and reporting ISEAN’s visibility and events related to MSM and transgender people in the Islands of Southeast Asia sub-region and provide analysis of the impact and public use of media channels with respect to ISEAN Advocacy Framework;
  4. Coordinate local capacity building session on communications and social networking for community members in the Islands of Southeast Asia sub-region;
  5. Collaborate with the communications team of Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health (APCOM) to support and improve communication channel and their information and knowledge sharing initiatives; and,
  6. Undertake additional tasks as and when assigned by the ISEAN RPM or the ISEAN Board.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Education: A university degree in any related fields, preferably in communications, development studies or English studies would be considered helpful. 
  • Language: Demonstrated high proficiency in English (reading, writing and speaking). Native speaker of a ISEAN language is compulsory (Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, Filipino, Tetum, Chinese or Tamil)
  • Experience: Relevant professional or personal experience in media, communications or in communities’ context.
  • Skills: High level of community connectivity (understand the dynamic of MSM and transgender communities). Able to use website management and graphic tools and manage the website efficiently. Comfortable using online technology and social media, including website, Facebook, Twitter etc. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with an eye for detail.
  • Self-motivated, outgoing personality and a passion for the MSM and transgender community
