Chemonics seeks a short-term Coastal Development & Environmental Specialist for the USAID-funded Indonesia Marine and Climate Support (IMACS) project. The project’s goal is to support the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) efforts to achieve sustainability in the marine and fisheries sector and to improve the response of coastal communities to near-term disasters and long-term impacts related to climate change.

Responsibilities include:

The Coastal Development & Environmental Specialist will ensure that the 15 micro and 3 small grants issued by IMACS for seaweed cultivation, mangrove restoration (including ancillary activities such as fish processing), and eco-tourism are:
  • Monitored and technically supported.
  • In compliance with the USAID and Chemonics rules and requirements of CFR 216
Qualifications:
  • Educational training at the Bachelor of Science level, and preferably higher, in Coastal Environmental Science, or a closely related field(s). (required)
  • Five years of practical experience working on coastal environmental projects, preferably financed by an international donor(s) (e.g., AUS-AID, USAID) or a recognized international NGO(s). (desired)
  • Five of years of combined experience working in seaweed cultivation, mangrove restoration, fish processing, aquaculture and fisheries resource technology/management, and/or eco-tourism. (required)
  • Experience with assessing, designing, implementing, monitoring and reporting on environmental safeguards and mitigation strategies on coastal projects, preferable related to CFR 216. (required)
  • Good communication skills, both spoken and written, in both Bahasa Indonesian and English. (required)
  • Willingness to maintain an aggressive field travel schedule in NTB and SULTRA. (required)
