For our Sustainable Cocoa Production Program (SCPP) in Indonesia, we are looking for an:
 
GIS Specialist

The SCPP project is a large Public Private Partnership (“PPP”) in Indonesia which was established in January 2012. The Project is financed by the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO, The Sustainable Trade Initiative IDH, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and five Private Sector Companies from the cocoa sector for the duration from 2012 – 2015. The Program works directly with 60,000 cocoa farming households in six Indonesian Provinces to improve farm productivity and livelihood conditions. All software development for data collection, analysis, and reporting is in-house which offers experience in the full software development cycle.

Task, Authority, and Responsibility
  • Responsible for collecting of project data based on Program requirement.
  • Responsible for data input, reporting, and filing system.
  • Responsible for developing and updating of the Program databases and MIS (including functionality of MyCash, MyStaff, MyM&E, MyAdmin and Inventory).   
  • Responsible for GIS mapping of locations for farmers, Demo Plots and group meeting points on Google Maps/Earth.
  • Support the M&E and Market Development Advisor and Head of Support Services with the development and updating of Program results and survey analysis from the MIS.
  • Support the M&E and Market Development Advisor with quality control/assurance of data and results from Program activities and surveys. 
  • Support the IT Officer with technical assistance and troubleshooting for IT problem.
  • Support the M&E and Market development Advisor and Head of Support Services in daily tasks.
Communication, Supervision, and Reporting
  • The GIS Specialist will work with Program Director, Regional Manager and other technical staff in the Main Office and Regional Offices. Organization, communication, and cartographic design skills will be essential to efficiently produce quality outputs. Candidates will be expected to work independently, with minimal oversight, and complete their work in an efficient and accurate manner. 
  • Report MIS and data entry progress and achievements to the M&E and Market Development Advisor upon request. 
  • Support Head of Support Services to actively communicate with SCPP regional and field staff regarding data collection, quality control and updates.
  • Support the Head of Support Services with the preparation of information and documents in English and Bahasa Indonesia for periodical reporting of M&E activities.
  • Support the Head of Support Services with the development and maintenance of analytical tools for Program reporting.
  • Supervised by the Head of Support Services.
Experience:
  • A post graduate GIS Certificate or 1-5 years of demonstrated experience in using GIS products with related environmental management.
  • Experience manipulating data for use on GPS units (Trimble, Garmin, etc.).
  • Experience with data management with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Programming experience applicable to GIS or other commonly used software.
  • Good understanding of development project implementation, particularly in rural and/or agricultural development is required.
  • Knowledge of relational database principals and designis required.
Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong organizational, planning, management skills and experience working in inter-cultural teams and environments.
  • Strong analytical skills including analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Strong proficiency in use of Excel and Word
  • Strong proficiency in use of Microsoft Access, SQL and PHP.
  • Stronginterpersonal and communication skills required to advice / coach staff and give occasional presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality outputs on time.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
