Forest Peoples Programme (FPP) supports the rights of peoples who live in forests and depend on them for their livelihoods. We work to challenge top-down development and create political space for forest peoples to secure their rights, control their lands and decide their own futures.
An exciting opportunity is now available for an energetic and multilingual activist to join our team for a six month period, and possibly longer (subject to funding and performance). S/he will support our Responsible Finance Programme (RFP), which works closely with forest peoples and project-affected communities in Latin America, Africa and Asia to push International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to improve their standards and put them into practice. We provide community training on how to use IFI complaints mechanisms using IFI social and environmental standards, and with reference to international human rights and other norms. We work to get indigenous peoples' rights respected in the standards and practices of the private sector.
Activities involve the facilitation of dialogue between forest peoples, governments and the private sector in international fora on human rights, conservation and sustainable development.
A key part of our work since 2007 has been tracking international finance for forest and climate initiatives in tropical countries. Under our 'rights, forest and climate change' project, we work with local partners in nine countries to promote full respect for the rights of forest peoples in multilateral, bilateral and private sector finance for tackling the causes of deforestation and climate change.
