We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities
Blue Ventures develops locally-led approaches to marine management that benefit people and nature alike. By listening and responding to basic needs, we design our models to catalyse and sustain marine conservation, unlocking the potential of coastal communities to manage their resources. We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and are committed to advancing the rights of small-scale fishers throughout the coastal tropics.

Summary Job Description
In Madagascar, Blue Ventures has pioneered an integrated approach to locally-led mangrove management and we are looking to share our experience with communities and organisations in the Asia-Pacific region, and also learn from our collaborators in the process. Over the past year, we have partnered with the Indonesian NGO Blue Forests (Yayasan Hutan Biru) to scope for two potential sites in Indonesia where such an approach might be applicable. Blue Ventures is seeking a Site Coordinator to launch and oversee the second of these sites – in Kubu Raya Regency, Kalimantan Barat. The Site Coordinator will coordinate activities as well as develop and nurture the partnerships on the ground – with communities, local organisations, the private sector and the government – that will be central to the success of the site. Yayasan Planet Indonesia and Yayasan Hutan Biru have already been identified as the implementing partners.

While the site’s main office will be in Pontianak, Blue Ventures is a field-based organisation, so the candidate must be willing to spend extended periods of time in the field. The role offers the opportunity for strategic thinkers to engage with coastal communities and partners on mangrove and marine conservation challenges. The evolving nature of the organisation will give the candidate opportunities to apply original and innovative thinking to diverse tasks and challenges. Blue Ventures is a fast-growing and mission-driven social enterprise, offering excellent opportunities for further professional development.
