Creative Youth for Tolerance (CREATE) program aims to improve pluralism and tolerance in schools. Inspired by humanist values, Hivos will implement CREATE that facilitates multi-actor collaboration and partnerships to address interreligious and interethnic harmony in Indonesia. CREATE adopts an innovative arts and culture-based approach as an entry point for efforts to promote tolerance and pluralism at the secondary school level, enhances the capacity and will among young people to constructively manage differences, and provides a counterweight to the intolerant messaging students get from other sources.
Functional Context
The Communications Officer is part of the project team and works with Project Officer CREATE, Activity Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (AMEL) Officer, the Regional Communications Officer in Hivos Southeast Asia, and partner organizations to develop communications materials content and ensure that all communication activities are aligned with Hivos’s corporate communication strategy, values, identity, standards and formats as well as donor’s branding and marking procedures and standards.
Aim of the job
The Communications Officer assists Project Manager and teams in the communication dimension of CREATE; plans and implements communication framework to which the project performance adheres and positions it according to both Hivos and project values, identity, standards and formats and tools for internal and external profiling and positioning. Within the partnership, the Communications Officer supports local partners in accomplishing deliverables and ensures they are aligned with the communication guidelines of CREATE project and donor’s branding and marking standards.
The Communications Officer is responsible to develop communication strategies, organise online and offline communication activities (e.g. in conferences, events), to develop and disseminate communication materials and enable Hivos and its partners to communicate effectively. This includes but is not limited to: develop and write the project relevant content, such as stories and visuals (photos, illustrations, infographics, videos), for Hivos Southeast Asia and the project media channels.
The Communications Officer assists the Regional Communications Officer the regional communications activities.
Knowledge, experiences and competencies
- Relevant higher professional education level of working and thinking (Bachelor degree or equivalent)
- 3-5 years of work experience in the development and implementation of communication strategies, branding and visibility guidelines and standards
- Work experience on peace and pluralism and/or art and culture based approach
- Work experience in an international environment is preferable.
- Excellent writing and organizational skills
- Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and partners
- Experience with campaigning, content management system and preferably image editing
