National Communication Coordinator (NC_C)


The National Communications Coordinator is responsible to support the National Communications Manager to develop and implement an effective communications strategy for Conservation International (CI) in Indonesia — to support the implementation of CI Indonesia’s country strategy and achieve the country program’s communications goals. The National Communications Coordinator’s role is crucial to support the implementation of the communications strategy under the supervision of the National Communications Manager. He/she will be supporting the national and programmatic communications strategy focus on the national level, with the main objectives for behavior change, national policy buy-in, and fundraising. He/she will support the Manager for aligning the CI brand across Indonesia with the guidance of the global and regional communications team. He/she will be responsible to manage traditional and social media engagement and strategic communications materials development.

This position reports to the National Communications Manager and nests within the Asia-Pacific Field Division. This position will be working closely with the Program Directors/Advisors/Managers, program communications team in Indonesia as well as communications team in Asia Pacific Field Division (APFD) and Head Quarter (HQ).

Key Responsibilities:

National Communications
  • Support to develop and implement national communications strategy for CI Indonesia to support country program goals, as well as support the achievements of programmatic objectives at national level for changes in policy or behavior — in alignment with each program;
  • Support to amplify programmatic initiatives and achievements to the national level via various communications channels;
  • Produce and update key communications materials within CI Indonesia, for both internal and external audiences, whether in house or working with vendors under the supervision of National Communications Manager;
  • Support to align CI brand across Indonesia with the guidance of the global and regional communications team;
  • Support the execution of key events at the national level, mainly for program amplification and donor cultivation;
  • Support the manager to ensure CI’s messaging, protocol and branding align with CI’s global brand.
Traditional and Social Media Engagement
  • Lead the media monitoring in CI Indonesia to advise and provide insights on media strategy for CI Indonesia, as part of the communications strategy;
  • Create and ensure the effective implementation of media and social media plans based on the national communications strategy to reach the focused target audiences;
  • Craft press releases, key messaging and other material as required;
  • Maintain strong media relationships with national and international media representatives, mainly in Jakarta, working with the APFD and HQ communications team where necessary;
  • Proactively promote stories or media placement to reach the target audiences at national level.
Digital Media Communications:
  • Implement the digital media communications plan of CI Indonesia, mainly to support sharing the stories to national and international audiences through CI platforms;
  • Responsible in the external communications process with CI Indonesia stakeholders through digital media platform, i.e. email blast, digital greetings card, survey, etc.;
  • Monitor the social media trends and provide recommendation for effective social media strategy.
Qualifications:
  • Required (critical to successful job performance. Applicants not meeting required skills may not be hired)
  • A degree in communications or social sciences with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in communications, especially for non-profit sector and familiar with environmental and sustainability issues;
  • Experience in developing strategic communications and maintain brand alignment in non-profits, with objectives of promoting behavior change, changes in public policy, and fundraising;
  • Fast learner who can digest conservation initiatives/programmatic concepts/approach, such as Ridge to Reefs, Conservation Province, etc.;
  • Experienced in maintaining network with national and international media;
  • Experienced in managing media monitoring and social media monitoring, and ability to advise approach for media and social media strategy;
  • Ability to simplify complex ideas into simple language, especially scientific findings, approach, or innovation in conservation;
  • Good sense of high quality of visual design/materials, and experienced in producing various communications products;
  • A good command of both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with proven presentation, writing and editing skills in both languages.
Additional Qualifications
  • Ability to work under pressure for multiple deadlines at the short time notice;
  • At least 2 years working in environmental NGOs;
  • A combination of experiences working in various sectors is preferred for having good sense of understanding on different stakeholders’ perspectives and interests.
