BLUE ABADI FUND, PARTNERSHIP MANAGER (BAF-PM)
Conservation International, the West Papuan government, and a coalition of nonprofit and community partners have launched the Blue Abadi Initiative, which aims to conserve the unparalleled marine biodiversity of the Bird’s Head Seascape in a way that empowers local indigenous communities.
The Blue Abadi Fund has been carefully designed over a two-year period by a multi-institutional team led by CI’s Global Conservation Fund (GCF) and including TNC, WWF, and Starling Resources and with outside legal counsel.
The fund has been developed in accordance with established best practices and standards for conservation trust funds as laid out by the Conservation Finance Alliance (CFA).7 The BHS coalition and the West Papua Government established a Papuan Advisory Council with high-ranking Papuan leaders to further advise on the fund’s development and to ensure the fund structure is locally appropriate and has necessary support from the Papuan government and local communities. The Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation or Yayasan Keanekaragaman Hayati Indonesia (KEHATI) has been selected as the initial fund administrator for the Blue Abadi Fund.
The Blue Abadi Fund have two granting tracks, a primary granting facility and INOVASI, a small grants facility support smaller local Papuan organizations actively participating in the conservation and sustainable development of the Seascape. Under the primary granting facility, the Blue Abadi Fund finance annual or multi-year sub-grants (ranging from $25,000 - $500,000/yr) to local Indonesian institutions operating in the BHS based on pre-established prioritization criteria. CI and KEHATI are committed to ensuring that learnings from the establishment and operation of the Blue Abadi fund is compiled and disseminated in order to advance sustainable financing for marine resource management across Indonesia and beyond.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fund Management
- Ensure BAF’s implementation of policies and practices
- Maintain budget and track expenditures
- Coordinate closely with BAF Administrator for sub-grants updates (financial and programmatic aspects)
- Support planning and coordination of BAF program and its activities
- Facilitate in schedule and organize BAF meetings/ events and maintain workplan
- Ensure Marine Protected Area (MPA) Management Units in Bird’s Head Seascape sites are well prepared for BAF implementation
Reporting
- Ensure the quality of BAFs’ monthly, quarterly and annual reports required by donors
- Close coordination with CI HQ for all BAF related matters
- Ensure BAF Administrator to submit programmatic and financial reports in timely manner
- Work closely with BHS Communications Manager in BAF communications through media relations, social media, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 8 years of experience in conservation organization and marine program
- In-depth knowledge and experience in Bird’s Head Seascape Marine Protected Area
- Strong familiarity with current discussions around Marine Protected Area and sustainable finance, impact assessments, and environmental standards and safeguards
- Extensive experience working closely with Bird’s Head Seascape partners
- Experienced engaging with stakeholders at the national and local level
- Good communication and coordination skills
- Good team player
