Peace Corps Indonesia is a U.S government agency partnering with the Government of Indonesia in the areas of technical cooperation and cultural understanding between the two countries.
Peace Corps brings volunteers from the United States to work at Indonesian schools to assist in the development of English Language teaching and learning.. The first step of the training cycle that volunteers complete is a 10-to-11-week intensive training called Pre-Service Training (PST). While the Peace Corps office is located in Surabaya, 2019 PST for ID13 will be conducted in Kediri, East Java. For PST, Peace Corps works together with Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Kediri as the General Service Support Provider to ensure the smooth training program provide for the volunteers.
The Community-Based Training approach is used for Peace Corps Trainees (PCTs) in which they are dispersed in groups of 7 small villages, where they stay with individual host families for the duration of training, visit local schools, and work with Language Facilitators (LFs) and Community Liaisons (CLs) on lessons that draw from daily experiences in the village and prepare them for new ones.
For this position, Peace Corps cannot provide any assistance with relocation to the area, temporary housing, or with costs for coming to Surabaya for an interview, or to the PST site for work. Due to U.S government regulations, the selected candidate will have to submit an original Police Certificate (SKCK) and have a security background check before being able to start working with Peace Corps.
Statement of Work
Under the supervision of Peace Corps Training Manager (TM) and Peace Corps Medical Officers (PCMOs) the Medical Liaison (MedL) is responsible for medical support given to PCTs.
Major Duties and Responsibility
Before the Arrival of PCTs:
Performs duties at PST site for the duration of training event. MedL may be required to work outside of or in addition to normally scheduled hours to support training events, PCTs, and other PST requirements. He or she may be asked to participate in occasional meetings in Surabaya.
Work Experience, Requirements and Qualifications
Experience:
University/College degree is an advantage.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Oral and written fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English required. Ability to speak in Javanese is an advantage.

Before the Arrival of PCTs:
- Participate in Training of Trainers (ToT) and Host Family Orientation; full attendance is mandatory.
- Attend orientation with Medical Unit in Peace Corps office in Surabaya and assist with the preparation of the arrival of PCTs.
- Attend PST staff meetings scheduled by TM.
- In coordination with Medical Unit, organize and prepare PCTs’ health plans.
- Support Peace Corps Medical Officers (PCMOs) in preparing session plans, including submission and logistics.
- Support Medical Secretary and Medical Assistant in setting up PCTs’ vaccination and consultation appointment schedules.
- Deliver medicines and accompany PCTs to laboratory and/or hospital for local appointments as needed.
- Give appropriate feedback to PCTs on local norms and values (for example proper clothing, behavior, politeness, etc.)
- Providing support to diverse PCTs in terms of race, ethnicity, religious, sexual orientation and backgrounds.
- Work is directed by Peace Corps TM, in coordination with Medical Unit.
- Responsible for managing medical supply boxes.
- Performs other duties as assigned according to Peace Corps Indonesia’s needs.
- Provides safety and security support to PC Trainees, Volunteers, and staff and assists in MS 270 regulations compliance. This includes giving support for Peace Corps Trainees to increase their awareness of the in-country environment, building their capacity to cope effectively with the challenges they will face, and provide tools to adopt a safe and appropriate life style. The MedL is also expected to support training that promotes a realistic understanding of the possibility of accident, crime, disaster, injury, psychological trauma, and loss of property during service. This includes helping Trainees to recognize factors that contribute to those risks and encourage compliance with Peace Corps policy, and to support efforts to instill attitudes consistent with adopting a culturally appropriate lifestyle and practicing measures to reduce risk.
- Knowledgeable and supportive of Peace Corps Safety and Security policies and procedures, including the timely reporting of suspicious incidents, persons, or articles

- Experienced in an international organization or international student’s association.
- Experienced working in community initiatives/projects/events.
- Experienced working in cross-cultural environment.
University/College degree is an advantage.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to manage various task such as organizing events, and work with minimum supervision.
- Ability in coaching and giving feedbacks, such as host families, village leaders, staff, Trainees and Volunteers.
- Computer-literate user of MS Office application, especially familiar with MS Word and MS Excel.
- Have knowledge of Kediri area and its public transportation.
