Background
Power Up: Women Shaping Their Future with Technology is a three-year (2017-2020), $3 million project funded by Global Affairs Canada and currently implementing in Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) province in Indonesia.
Using innovative and accessible technology it will empower women, men, boys, girls, and marginalized groups to increase their engagement in democratic decision making processes to exercise their rights’ improve their ability to access and understand information, demand improved government accountability, and access improved services. The initiative will make extensive use of technology platforms based on mobile communication and websites to strengthen active citizen involvement, with special focus on women and especially marginalized women.
The initiative responds to the Government of Indonesia’s commitment to the decentralization of decision-making in budgeting and planning to district and village levels, including but not limited to the 2014 Law on Village Development (law 6), which obliges village level government to facilitate effective participation of citizens in budgeting and planning especially for health needs of women. The project will also work closely with the district and sub-district health offices under the Ministry of Health for better transparency and accountability is ensured at the village level to address the maternal health needs of the women using technology.
The Role
Gender Officer will provide technical advice to ensure empowerment of women and women’s group in West Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia to actively participate in local democratic decision making processes at the village-level using technology to exercise their rights to transparent and equitable development processes that reflect their needs especially their health needs. This position will report to Power Up Project Manager, in close collaboration with Partnership Officer and ICT officers to build capacity of partners and Oxfam staffs in implementing a project on ‘’Women Shaping Their Future with technology’’, in Nusa Tenggara Barat.
