Asian Disaster Preparedness Center Job Vacancy: Training Content Development Specialist, Jakarta

The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) is an inter-governmental organization that has worked to build the resilience of people and institutions to disasters and climate change impacts in Asia and the Pacific since 1986. Established as a technical capacity building center, ADPC has grown and diversified its expertise across social and physical sciences to support sustainable solutions for risk reduction and risk management across a broad range of specialist areas.

ADPC develops and implements cross-sectoral programs and projects on strategic themes of risk governance, urban resilience, climate resilience, health risk management, preparedness for response and resilient recovery. Our strategic themes are complemented and underpinned by the cross-cutting themes of gender and diversity, regional and transboundary cooperation as well as poverty reduction and livelihoods.

ADPC has more than 30 years of working experience in Asia along with the national and local Government of its charter member countries as well as countries of the Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) on Disaster Management. ADPC works to build preparedness at all levels, from regional, to national, sub-national and even to individual communities.

ADPC Academy, a specialized unit within ADPC tasked with training and capacity building duties, has just completed a collaboration with the Indonesian DM Training Center, or the Indonesian Disaster Relief Training Ground (INA-DRTG). Since 2016, ADPC has delivered specialized training courses and capacity-building programs to enhance the capacity of the INA-DRTG through the Project “Strengthening the Technical and Organizational Capacity of BNPB Training Center in Indonesia”. With further support from the USAID Office for Disaster Assistance, ADPC is in the process of starting the implementation of a new project, “Program for Strengthening Capacity Building and Training Management System of the Indonesian Disaster Relief Training Ground”.

Through the project, ADPC will support INA-DRTG in transforming itself into an international center of excellence in disaster management training

Statement of Intent:
ADPC is currently looking for a suitable candidate for the position of “Training Content Development Specialist” to support the project to develop and adapt training curricula, develop training materials for both conventional and electronic training, and provide mentoring support to national master trainers in DRTG Indonesia. Note: It is not the intent of this Position Description to cover every aspect of the position requirements, rather to highlight the most important areas of personal and joint responsibility.

Required Qualifications and Specification:
Master Degree in relevant field such as Disaster Management, Education, Training and Capacity Development and/or• a related experience that is related to training content development in disaster risk management. Minimum 3-5 years of working experience with universities, training institutes, research institutes or similar other• entities as a lecturer, trainer or researcher on geospatial sciences, disaster management, climate risk management, agriculture, or public health in Indonesia and/or the Asian region. Capable of developing and designing materials and operationalizing electronic learning system using online training• management system Previous proven experience in adapting conventional training curriculum and modules into e-learning curriculum• and modules and working with the multi-media is essential. Training skills and knowledge Experience in delivering training in Indonesia in as trainer/Instructor for an adult audience;• Demonstrated knowledge in adult training and capacity building and instrument development, particularly e-training• curriculum/modules design development;

Excellent English proficiency in oral and written communication, including a demonstrated track record in preparing training materials and technical reports, and ability to communicate technical matters effectively to general audience.

Responsibilities:
  • Design training management system and capacity development programs and related knowledge products based on the needs and priorities of the DRTG
  • Develop training materials, including electronic training materials and adult learning tools and other materials such as guidelines, manuals, case studies, etc. as needed
  • Lead the adaptation of conventional face-to-face training programs into e-training courses 
  • Liaise with Universities and other training institutes in developing training products
  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation to contribute to achieving the results, and develop monitoring and evaluation reports
Reporting Relationship:
Reports directly to the Program Manager based in Indonesia and supervised by the Program Director of the project. Works closely with other staff of the Project and ADPC.

Contract: Six (6) month to deliver the outputs. The position will be filled from 01 January 2019 and end by 30 June 2019
