Lombok
From July 29 to August 19, 2019, the island
of Lombok experienced a cluster of earthquakes and aftershocks, with five
earthquakes measuring between M5 and M6.9. By the end of August, BNPB estimates
more than 1,000 earthquakes and aftershocks had occurred and there have been
are 560 casualties, 1,466 injured 396,032 IDPs and 83,392 damaged houses. Mercy Corps is supporting seven (7) villages
in East Lombok to cope with the impact of the earthquakes and to initiate their
social, physical and economic recovery.
Water and Sanitation
Engineer
The Water and
Sanitation Engineer will be based in Lombok and work with the Disaster Response
Lombok Team to ensure quality construction for WASH structure to be built by
communities affected by the earthquake. The Engineer will work closely with
Community Empowerment Officers and Assistants to oversee the temporary latrine
construction process by the communities, to conduct quality control and advise
on the proper maintenance of the WASH structure (including its treatment once
the structure is no longer needed) and to advise on the appropriate design that
meets health standards while still culturally acceptable and appropriate
following the WASH structure end of lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- Experience working in WASH Program and overseeing WASH construction (include temporary latrine);
- Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or other related field;
- Willingness to work in remote rural settings in Lombok Island;
- Cultural sensitive and able to work effectively with a wide range of people in community level;
- Independent and have strong organizational skills; demonstrated experience working with a multi-disciplinary team and able to follow procedures and meet deadlines;
- Two years’ experience working in Microsoft Office applications and Auto Cad is required;
- Good written and spoken English is a plus.
Community Empowerment
Officer
The Project Officer
– Community Empowerment will be based in Lombok and work alongside communities
and disaster management related forum/network to increase civic participation;
health and wellbeing and to reach and agree on priorities to be included and
progressed in local community plans for early recovery. The role also provides
support and guidance to build and improve community engagement capability,
knowledge, and institutional skills. The
Project Officer will work with WASH engineer to ensure quality implementation
and smooth handover in building WASH facilities. The Project Officer will also
work closely with the Psychosocial Officer and Hygiene Promotion Officer to
help the communities recover from their trauma and to implement appropriate and
culturally-acceptable awareness building activities to improve their wellbeing.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience working in a community development environment;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Community Development or other related field;
- Demonstrated, developed facilitation and engagement skills;
- Knowledge on disaster risk management especially on response and recovery will be an advantage;
- Ability to converse in English and to cross translate between Bahasa and English is preferred;
- Ability to multi-task, follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently an cooperatively with team members are essential;
- Computer literate; proficient in MS Office, MS Excel in particular and Internet navigation are required.

- Diploma Degree or equivalent in Anthropology, Community Development or other related field;
- Knowledge on disaster risk management especially on response and recovery will be an advantage;
- Basic ability to converse in English will be an advantage;
- Ability to multi-task, follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members are essential;
- Computer literate; proficient in MS Office, MS Excel in particular and Internet navigation are required.
The
vacant positions in Lombok will be for 5 months as temporary staff.
