Country Director, Indonesia

Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We believe
in the power of media and communication to help reduce poverty and
support people in understanding their rights.
Our
aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the worlds. We do
this through partnering with civil society, media and others to produce
creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences
on key development issues. We focus on health, governance and rights,
and resilience and humanitarian response. We also strengthen the media
sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. In
Indonesia we are delivering our new governance project, producing
national television drama and discussion programmes, supported by social
media, to help people understand and engage in the management of their
country’s forests.
We’re seeking a dynamic Country Director to recruit and lead the team, open an office, oversee delivery and secure new projects.
Role Responsibility:
You’ll
lead a recruit and lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver exciting
and innovative media and communications projects that have impact and
provide value for money. You’ll ensure that our outputs are produced on
time, on budget and to high BBC editorial and production standards.
You’ll open a new office in Jakarta and establish systems and structures
to ensure growth and delivery. A confident public speaker, you’ll
represent BBC Media Action in Indonesia, proactively developing positive
relationships with donors, government bodies, media organisations,
NGOs, academic institutions, international development agencies and the
wider BBC. You’ll lead team in securing significant new business with a
diverse range of donors, through designing and pitching exciting new
project ideas. You’ll be based in Jakarta, Indonesia, and will travel
nationally and occasionally internationally.
Are you the right candidate?
We’re
looking for a dynamic senior leader from the media or development
sectors with experience leading diverse teams in times of change. You
have a flair for galvanising and motivating a multi-disciplinary team,
recruiting high calibre staff and managing performance. Committed to
international development, you’ll know how media can be used for
development, and your understanding of public service broadcasting will
demonstrate your potential to acquire strong editorial skills. You’ll
bring your experience effectively managing complex budgets, and of the
design and management of large project. You’ll have shown your ability
to secure new business, present persuasively to potential partners and
oversee successful proposals.
