(Based in Sukadana – West Kalimantan)
Alam Sehat Lestari (ASRI) is an innovative planetary health non-profit located in West Kalimantan, Indonesia that is seeking an Conservation Programs Manager to work with us to help save Gunung Palung National Park – one of the biological wonders of the world that is home to a critical population of orangutans. The ASRI Clinic, and our future hospital, provides high-quality, discounted health care to local communities in exchange for commitments to forest conservation. This work is supported by a portfolio of conservation and community development programs designed to target individual drivers of illegal logging in Gunung Palung. ASRI itself is supported by US Non-profit Health in Harmony.
Your job would be overseeing a team of 10 Indonesian staff members and the conservation programs they manage which include:

Your job would be overseeing a team of 10 Indonesian staff members and the conservation programs they manage which include:
- Reforestation of critical orangutan habitat with native tree species
- Sustainable agriculture extension work & agricultural product marketing
- Micro-enterprise program for loggers to become entrepreneurs
- Goats for Widows/Livestock husbandry
- Conservation education and community outreach
- Illegal logging monitoring and GIS analysis
- Forest Guardians/Community organizing and capacity building
- Leading annual work planning processes for the conservation program and facilitating long-term strategic program planning processes
- Monitoring and evaluating program achievements and progress, and re-structuring programs in line with changing conservation threats
- Facilitating the professional development of conservation program staff through identifying suitable training and education opportunities
- Authoring grant proposals and reports supporting all ASRI program activities (conservation, health and community development)
- Compiling and managing annual conservation division budget; ensuring the transparent and responsible expenditure of program budgets
- Representing ASRI at local, national and international-level forums relevant to building our networks and scaling-up our impact
- Building partnerships and maintaining positive relationships with other conservation stakeholders in the Gunung Palung landscape
- Supervising conservation program volunteers and interns from within and outside Indonesia
- Liaising with our partner organization, Health in Harmony, through providing timely information on conservation program updates
- Willing to make a 2-year commitment
- Willing to live in a small town in rural Borneo
- Fluent in both Bahasa Indonesia and English
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing situations with patience and humor
- Eager to work among different cultures and ethnicities, with varying socio-economic backgrounds
- Team-oriented, and ready to help with organizational needs beyond the scope of your own specific job duties
- Committed to conserving tropical forests in conjunction with improving public health
- A Masters degree in a relevant field (environmental science or management, forestry, agriculture, geography, international development, etc.)
- Three+ years relevant work experience in developing countries, including (ideally) at least 1 year in Indonesia
- Statistical analysis and data management experience. Experience with GIS, cartography, or remote sensing is also a plus.
- Track record of developing successful grant and funding proposals
