- Job Title: Tasikoki WiRES Manager
- Department: Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue & Endangered Species (WiRES)
The WiRES manager is responsible for the coordination and supervision of WiRES staff and wildlife conservation activities, as well as the responsibility for the cleanliness, function, and safety of WiRES resources (including enclosures, buildings, amenities, and vehicles).
Essential Job Functions
- Cost-efficient weekly budget and resource planning as well as management and priority setting of key staff teams;
- Clinic, Release Programmes and Ex-situ Conservation
- Food-house, Keepers and Wildlife Volunteers
- Zootech Maintenance & Construction
- Tree Nursery and food forest
- Sea turtle conservation
- Ensuring adequate stock control and provision of necessary equipment for WiRES staff, in line with ethical policies
- Wildlife conservation NGO & government networking and promotion (national/international) to develop conservation programs and support base
- Risk management, health & safety at work management and prioritizing ongoing maintenance/development of WiRES facilities
- Managing relations with the local government offices with respect to wildlife conservation and law enforcement activities (BKSDA, GAKKUM, DisHut, Polda/PolRes, DisPen, etc). Providing monthly/annual reports and presentations.
- Supervising/coordinating research students and interns
- Directly liaising with visitors and potential sponsors
- Support education officers and public content coordinator (PCC) – these will be managed or co-managed under Visitor & Education Centre team
- Providing/requesting content for PCC
- Writing funding/grant proposals and reports for sponsors
- Designing enclosures for wildlife rehabilitation
- Bilingual English/Indonesian plus any other language is a bonus
- Excellent IT skills, especially with accounting and financial reporting
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Wildlife/conservation management skills or transferable management skills from other sectors
- Proposal-writing and report writing
- Cost-efficiency, budget planning and resource planning skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- An understanding of the latest trends and their role within wildlife conservation
- Professional, reliable, trustworthy and environmentally friendly mind-set
- Willing and open to learn
- Vehicle driving license is a bonus and encouraged
- Commitment: 3 months trial as “interim manager” followed by 12-month contract based upon successful evaluation
Time and Place
- Office hours, 2 days off and public holidays. Following the trial period, an “All-in” contract with overtime as necessary to fulfill duties.
- 2 weeks annual leave after the trial period.
- Workspace at a wildlife clinic office
- Some local travel (expenses paid) in the region (Manado-Bitung-Tomohon) will be necessary
- Budget-dependant travel overseas (e.g. relevant conservation conferences/workshop’s in Bali/Java or regional rescue work to Ternate, Gorontalo, Sangihe-Talaud etc) may also be possible
- OTJ - including expected self-study of necessary topics where appropriate
- Will work as direct counterpart for Wildlife Programme Advisor
Close coordination with conservation management team and Masarang management team.
