Training Specialist - School Improvement Program
(3 positions : Riau, Jambi and North Sumatera)
Job Summary
The Training Specialist (TS) will be supporting the implementation and management of Pelita Pendidikan Program and Improvement Program of RGE Schools under overall guidance of Pelita Pendidikan Program Manager and in collaboration with Pelita Pendidikan Regional Program Manager.
Pelita Pendidikan Program is a multi-year school development program initiated by Tanoto Foundation, a philanthropic organization founded by Mr. Sukanto Tanoto and Ms. Tinah Bingei Tanoto. Pelita Pendidikan Program has been implemented since 2010 in the provinces of Riau, North Sumatera and Jambi.
Training Specialist will be key person in facilitating training and training of trainers for teachers, training for principals and school supervisors, and monitoring the progress of learning and ensuring the fulfilment of expected impact to students performance. In general, the TS will be responsible for, including but not limited to, developing training manuals/modules as required, deliver training, provide technical assistance for team and counterparts, ensuring quality of the training program achieved, communication and coordination with BU/BG, Counterparts and Beneficiaries; Monitoring and Evaluation activities, and strengthening branding of Tanoto Foundation in the areas/sites.
Responsibilities:
Program Implementation
- Design, and facilitate principal, school supervisor and teacher training including students-literacy oriented program, that align with Tanoto Foundation’s vision and mission and under collaboration with Pelita Pendidikan Program Manager (PPPM) and Education Specialists, Regional Program Manager and other training specialist
- Develop and/or review module and manual for trainings of teachers, principal and school supervisors, for continuous development, standardization and quality assurance. It may include the following activities:
- Assess teacher’s capacity and competency, also literacy skills of primary schools students within implementation areas (needs assessment).
- Conduct desk review on best practices in teacher training and literacy program, from national level (MOEC, national training providers, Private training providers), international level (International Organization/Agency, international Publication, etc)
- Periodically evaluate the modules/manuals to fit in into dynamic changes within education sector in Indonesia (Curriculum, Long-term Education Policy, Government Strategy focus, etc)
- Provide support and technical assistance to teachers, principals and schools supervisors in optimizing their forum: Kelompok Kerja Guru (KKG) and Kelompok Kerja Kepala Sekolah, or other networking/forum to ensure sustainable learning
- In collaboration with other specialist, (Environment, Construction, CSR), responsible to develop training implementation strategy that comprehend multi-focused/thematic issues that align with the Tanoto Foundation implementation strategy, including but not limited to:
- To provide inputs and insight into other program component related to modules/manuals/training strategy that will be delivered in other program
- To incorporate issues/focused key message from other program into teacher training and how to apply it into daily teaching and learning activities
- Develop capacity of Regional Office Team and work with them to monitor the progress of training knowledge application and to support the achievement of targeted performance at the level of principals, teachers, school supervisors and students
- Review feedback from Regional Office Team to strategize follow up, mentoring or coaching to ensure quality of program
- Lead and get support from M&E Department to monitor the output of the training as stated in TOR, including to ensure the training content is deliver and the beneficiaries experience the improvement of performance
- Document the change of performance at the targeted beneficiaries and progress to the alignment and achievement to overall program goal (objective)
- Coordinate with the Regional Program Manager in ensuring that all training schedule is well coordinate with Regional Project Officer and the timeline is planned.
- Work with M&E Department, to develop monitoring and evaluation tools for impact on teacher training programs and exercise the monitoring and evaluation activities
- Support the development of impact evaluation tools of the program and impact evaluation activities, if required.
- Periodically submit monitoring result to PPPM and RPM regarding improvements of partners’ schools in teaching and learning activities post teacher training (and library improvement program), based on agreed monitoring tools
- Perform other relevant duties as reasonably assigned by the immediate supervisor or Management of Tanoto Foundation.
- Supporting the process of the following projects:
- Identification of Human Interest Stories and/or other inspiring stories to be submitted for to Corporate Communication Department.
- If required, collecting baseline and needs assessment data for a new program initiative (daycare center/ECE in Asian Agri and RAPP sites), Pelita Pendidikan and RGE Schools.
The Regional Project Officer will be based in Tanoto Foundation Regional Offices and within designates area/site, with frequent travel to other area/site as required.

Line Coordination and day to day works:
- Internal: Head of Tanoto Foundation, Regional Program Manager, Specialists, FFAO, Sr. Program Officer, Regional Project Officers, TF Jakarta Staff
- External: District Education Offices, Schools Principal, Schools Teacher, Estate Manager, Head of Administration in estate (KTU), National and Local Facilitators
- Bachelor Degree within Education Program from reputable university – a Post graduate would be advantageous.
- A minimum of 5 year experience as Principal or School Supervisor or Teacher for elementary schools
- Experience in developing training modules/manuals for principals and teachers competency improvement
- Experience in facilitating capacity development for principals and teachers through public school, private schools, or humanitarian or social business (NGO/INGO)
- Experience in monitoring and evaluating the progress of capacity development at teachers and principals and seeing the impact at students level (student evaluation program)
- Proven experience in liaisons with stakeholders and counterparts.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results independently and under team work mechanism
- Strong communication skills, ability to communicate in English (both oral and written) is desirable.
- Able to do multi-tasking, working in high pressure to meet results, working with minimum supervision and multi-cultural environment.
- Willing to be placed in and travel to remote areas with minimum facilities and supervision.
- Able to use computers and MS Windows Applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point) and internet.
- Can drive motorcycle (and car) and have valid driving license
