JOB PURPOSE

  • In order to achieve goals and planned results within a defined schedule and a budget, a manager uses a project methodology. A methodology is a model, which project managers employ for the design, planning, implementation and achievement of their project objectives.
  • Regardless of which field, there are wide assortments of methodologies to help managers at every stage of a project from the initiation to implementation to the closure. Hence, there are different project management methodologies that cater to the needs of different projects spanned across different business domains. Every employee has a different way of understanding the various aspects of a project and explaining to each one of them individually can be extremely time consuming and exhausting.
  • As WFP Indonesia is engaging various governmental and non-governmental sector partners extensively on a number of projects, knowledge of WFP staff on common project management methodology is key to the successful implementation of the project in all stages. This will ensure effective flow of communication among all leading to lesser errors and problems.
  • Project management methodology encompasses the management, control and organisation of a project.  An acronym for PRojects IN Controlled Environments, PRINCE2 is a project management methodology. Developed by a UK Office of Government Commerce it is used extensively within the UK, and has become the de-facto project management standard for public projects. Notably, PRINCE2 has been implemented internationally by such organizations as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNOPS.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
UNOPS provide online PRINCE2 training course free of charge to UN personnel and have agreed to register WFP staffs on their system. There are two levels of qualification. The Foundation Level is the first qualification required to become a PRINCE2 Practitioner. This level measures a candidate’s comprehension of the principles and terminology of PRINCE2, and certifies that he/she can act as an informed member of a project management team using PRINCE2 and within an environment supporting PRINCE2. The Practitioner Level is the second level. It is for candidates looking to deepen and refine their learning, before they can apply and tailor PRINCE2 to a specific scenario situation.

All WFP staff would be trained to Foundation level using the UNOPS online materials facilitated by a PRINCE2 Training Facilitator, while some staff would be trained to Practitioner level afterwards. The Facilitator will be engaged to compact learning timelines and ensure all participants reach the same understanding at the same time, which is clearly advantageous to organisations who need to train multiple personnel.

Reporting to the Head of Business Unit, in close collaboration with the Activity Managers, the Facilitator will carry out the following tasks:

  • Ensure all staff rapidly complete the training course to the same level at the same time,
  • Facilitates internal discussions with Q&A sessions,
  • Ensures the online materials are covered at the correct pace, detail and emphasis to complete the foundation course within two full training days and practitioner in one day,
  • Facilitate initial discussions on the adaption of the PRINCE2 methodology for WFP corporate requirements and project approaches with partners.
  • Conduct class room PRINCE 2 Foundation & PRINCE 2 Trainings in several sessions (groups) & debriefing session to all participants upon completion of the trainings.
