Swisscontact Job Vacancy: Project Officer Distillation - SIPP, Kolaka Utara

The Swisscontact Sustainable Indonesian Patchouli Production Program (SIPP) is currently accepting applications for the position of: 
PROJECT OFFICER DISTILATION, Based in Kolaka Utara (Job Code: PODSIPP)
The PO Distillation will be responsible for the distillation component of a project designed to increase the sustainability of patchouli cultivation and distillation in the Kolaka Utara and Pula Buton regions of Sulawesi Tenggara. The PO Distillation will be responsible for efficiency improvements of 40 traditional patchouli stills and providing training for 200 distillers. The PO Distillation will also be responsible for data collection training and collecting data from all cooperating distillers to be used with traceability software. The PO Distillation will also collect distillation data when necessary.
Task, Authority and Responsibility
To increase the efficiency of 40 traditional patchouli stills in the Kolaka Utara and Buton regions:
  • Community Relations: socializing the project and developing a network of distillers and still owners willing to participate in still improvement and data collection;
  • Still Studies: Developing criteria for measurement, and carrying out an individual study for 40 traditional stills to identify key needs for fuel efficiency rehabilitation;
  • Rehabilitation and Efficiency Renovation: Supervising work on 40 stills with the support of a welding assistant and local community members. Physical labor will be required;
  • Fuel-Reduction: Supervise the work of interns tasked with reprocessing patchouli waste into a possible fuel source and innovations in traditional design to increase still efficiency.
To provide efficient distillation training for 200 distillers in the Kolaka Utara and Buton regions:
  • Curriculum: Developing a training curriculum that will help distillers increase efficiency and reduce still fuel consumption. The method and importance of data collection per cycle will be included;
  • Training: Providing efficient distillation training and measuring adoption for 200 distillers;
  • Data Collection: Cooperating with the SIPP team to collection cycle data on distillation and including this data in the traceability software to be created.
Project Management:
  • Submitting monthly activity reports;
  • Providing a detailed renovation still report on all 40 stills in the project;
  • Providing spending reports for each activity;
  • Analyzing the distillation cycle data collected.
Employee Requirements
  • University Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 5 years in project implementation for an NGO or relevant business
  • Experience in distillation of essential oil / patchouli experience preferred
  • Experience in building and construction
  • Ability to draft and review construction drawings and BOQ
  • Ability to participate in the rehabilitation of stills and provide labor when needed
  • Experienced trainer with ability to develop curriculum
  • Experience with distillation logs and distillation data collection
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with local community
  • Experience report writing in Bahasa Indonesia and English
  • Experience with agro-forestry programs
  • Knowledge of patchouli cultivation
  • Comfortable with technology and adoption of new programs and applications
  • Comfortable working in the field, establishing relationships with farmers/producers
  • Ability to work legally in Indonesia
  • Good communication skills in English: (written and spoken)
  • Native spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia and expert knowledge of Indonesian government structure on local, provincial and national levels
