The Cocoa Sustainability Partnership Job Vacancy: Finance Landscape Document - Makassar

Internship Opportunities
To Complete Financial Landscape Documentation For Cocoa Stakeholder

The Cocoa Sustainability Partnership (CSP) is a public-private forum for the advancement of communication and working together between stakeholders actively engaged in cocoa development initiatives in Indonesia. The CSP exists to increase communication, coordination and collaboration between public and private stakeholders engaged in cocoa sustainability activities in Indonesia for the mutual benefit of all cocoa sector players. The day to day management of the forum is run by a Secretariat located in Makassar. The Secretariat function is to facilitate communication and knowledge sharing among CSP members and other stakeholders in cocoa industry.

Background of the Consultation:
Most agricultural markets, often defined by different segments of the agricultural value chain (input suppliers, producers, traders, processors, exporters) lack access to needed financial services, not just the least affluent. Developing financial products and technologies to serve agricultural and rural markets, including smallholder producers and small traders, also requires the development of more complex financial technologies, for example, insurance and derivative products, that can potentially serve  all segments of the agricultural value chain from farmer to exporter to reduce risk.

Today, Indonesia is third biggest cocoa producer in the world. With its vast and abundant cocoa trees, Indonesia could become a major global producer of a wide variety of cocoa products, offering strong opportunities to smallholder producers. Yet, millions of smallholder farmers and farm workers are materially and financially unable to tap into these resources. They are often geographically isolated and lack access to agricultural extension services, markets and financial services.

Cocoa Sustainability Partnership (CSP) as multi stakeholder forum in cocoa has developed Cocoa Roadmap 2020 with two main objectives is to make Indonesia as a cocoa producer number one in the world and maintain an average age of farmers in below 40 years. In order to achieve these objectives CSP has established six task forces in the General Assembly in 2015.

One of these task force is Access to Finance task force with objective to identify models of financial services to farmers. To achieve this objective, task force will document, identify, review financial models that have been developed by members of the CSP and other financial institutions. The final output or result of this activity is Finance Landscape document.

The document can be used as a recommendation of financial models that can be implemented in the cocoa sector and other agricultural sectors so that access to finance could be improved.

Some financial model which will be summarized in this document is public sector loan products, social lenders and other financing options. It also includes other useful information related to loans, such as on creditworthiness assessment tools and collateral.

Until now this document is still in the process of compilation and CSP are opening 2 internship opportunities to complete that and to develop a web-based database or online application for the document.
