Sustainable Cocoa Production Program (SCPP) in Indonesia, is currently accepting applications for the position of:
AGRICULTURE EXPERT (Job Code: AGE2)
Based in Makassar, South Sulawesi
The
Agriculture expert is responsible for overseeing the agricultural
content of Sustainable Cocoa Production Program (SCPP) implementation.
He/she will provide technical inputs on new approaches, research
and agronomy-relevant activities, develop new learning materials and
lessons learned, support ToTs in Good Agriculture Practices, coordinate
relevant research and studies, and monitor the implementation of new
training manuals. He/she will coordinate within
R&D unit (social and gender, certification and environment), and
program implementation unit to ensure the quality of trainings and
technical assistance delivery in SCPP. The main workplace is located in
the Swisscontact Office in Makassar, but flexibility
is expected from the employee for tasks to be conducted outside the
employment location. This position requires frequent travel, including
to rural areas.
Task, Authority, and Responsibility
- Providing inputs to the SCPP’s GAP training modules and materials and implementation approaches (including FFS, demo-plots, nurseries, clonal gardens, technical assistance)
- Ensure quality and consistency of the GAP trainings and teaching materials across all SCPP areas;
- Providing trainings or capacity building activities in order to improve technical capacity of program implementation team in topics related to Good Agriculture Practice (GAP)
- Identification of knowledge gap of SCPP staff related to GAP
- Responsible for documentation and dissemination of best practices, lessons learnt and innovative methodology for farmer trainings to improve the program implementation;
- Responsible for design, coordination and supervision of internal research and studies related to cocoa agronomy
- In coordination with PR develops content for communication materials related to GAP such as posters, flipcharts, brochures, flyers, etc.;
- In coordination with the certification specialist ensures that the GAP training is aligned with the certification process
- In coordination with other R&D team members (social and gender, finance, nutrition, certification, and environment), MRM and Program implementation unit ensures that learnings are documented and shared internally and externally
- Under the supervision of Head of R&D establishes and maintains effective coordination with Government of Indonesia (GoI), research institutions, universities, private sectors, and other stakeholders.
Employee Requirements
- Master degree in agriculture or related subject from an accredited academic institution
- At least 7 years or more of professional work experience in Agriculture extension services sector
- At least 2 years experience in Cocoa sector
- Experience in working with international NGO program/project implementation
- Experience in working and/or liaising with the communities and various partners, and institutions
- Good understanding of development project implementation, particularly in rural and/or agricultural development is appreciated
- Experience in research or manual development (preferably proof of some peer reviewed published work)
- Additional background experience in private sector development, value chain analysis, and community development would be an advantage
- Research experience (preferably proof of some peer reviewed published work)
- Strong organizational, planning, management skills and experience working in inter-cultural teams and environments
- Strong analytical skills including analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data
- Good in personal organization, planning and priority setting. Excellent at taking initiatives, focused and result oriented
- Demonstrated ability to effectively transfer knowledge
- Strong attention to detail and to maintaining a high quality standard
- Demonstrated flexibility and capable of managing a variety of tasks with minimal supervision
- Strong proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications
- Advanced spoken and written English
- Experience with large datasets analyses (SQL, SPSS, R) is an advantage
