Organization:
Build Change Indonesia (Yayasan Bangunan Cemerlang Indonesia) is an international nonprofit social enterprise whose mission is to save lives in earthquakes and typhoons. Yayasan Bangunan Cemerlang Indonesia (YBCI) designs safe buildings, trains homeowners, builders and engineers to build them, works with governments to develop and implement building standards and facilitates access to capital for safer reconstruction. In West Sumatra, Build Change also works with small and medium sized brick making enterprises with the objective of improving house safety through increased use of good quality construction materials.

In 2015, and as part of a larger Better Building Materials (BBM) program, Build Change fostered the creation of Bata Jaya, a brick making cooperative capable of producing bricks up to Indonesian National Standards (SNI). Over the next three years, Build Change will be helping Bata Jaya grow into a nationally recognized brand of affordable good quality bricks, and help its members improve production efficiency, reduce environmental impacts and sustainably grow their business.

Position:
Build Change is looking for a high-performing Sales Officer to help us meet our Bata Jaya Cooperative brick sales and revenue growth targets. The Sales Officer will be responsible for developing the Bata Jaya sales strategy, justifying it to the Project and Program Managers and leading and mentoring Cooperative sales representatives during its implementation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead in the acquisition of new customers
  • Develop contract templates, sales receipts and other written materials that facilitate and formalize the purchase process.
  • Build and promote strong, long-lasting customer relationships by maintaining close contact with them and understanding their needs. This includes ensuring customers receive and are fully satisfied with their brick purchase.
  • Work with Build Change’s Economic Development Officer in the development of sales, and profit & loss tracking tools, and collect data on a monthly basis.
  • Set objectives, coach and monitor the performance of cooperative sales representatives.
  • In collaboration with Build Change’s Economic Development Officer, present sales, revenue and expenses reports and realistic forecasts to the management team.
  • Identify emerging markets and market shifts while being fully aware of new products and competition status.
  • Collaborate with the Build Change Communications Officer in the development and distribution of Bata Jaya and better building materials (BBM) marketing materials when required.  
  • Represent “Bata Jaya Cooperative” interests in meetings with companies, local authorities and government bodies.
  • Promote the use of good quality bricks in construction.
Qualifications and experience;
  • Successful previous experience as a sales representative or sales Officer, consistently meeting or exceeding targets
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to drive the sales process from plan to close
  • Strong business sense and industry expertise
  • Excellent mentoring, coaching and people management skills
  • Professional, positive attitude and a willingness to work extra hours when required.
