The Zoological Society of London is an international
wildlife conservation organization with a focus on science-based and

years, with a particular focus on the overlap between industrial
development and biodiversity conservation. ZSL’s Indonesia is based in
Bogor, West Java, with existing field projects in Jambi and South

Key Purpose of the Job
The Monitoring, Evaluation and Safeguard Manager will lead the
monitoring, evaluation and reporting, as well as safeguard the project
and ensure that the environmental policies of the government,
UKCCU/NICFI and donors are fully complied with. He/she will support the
implementation of the UKCCU/NICFI Project and provide technical guidance
by designing and developing M&E systems and procedures for the
ZSL’s project. This includes establishing key components of an M&E
system including data collection, analysis, and reporting on key output,
outcome and impact indicators for the project.
This position oversees the UKCCU/NICFI Project in South Sumatra.
The UKCCU/NICFI Project works with the Government of South Sumatra,
national and district level governments, communities and the private
sector to facilitate and support the government, private sector and
local communities, to establish and pilot the sustainable landscape
management partnership approach in the Sembilang - Dangku landscape of
South Sumatra. The proposed impact of this project is to achieve
“Inclusive economic growth and community prosperity, biodiversity
conservation, forest protection and restoration, and the ending of
deforestation, peatland drainage and wildfires that reduces land-based
GHG emissions”.
Main Responsibilities

The ME & Safeguard Manager will report directly to the Project Director, and indirectly to ZSL Country Manager.

The post holder will be responsible for supervising ME Coordinator and Project ME Coordinator.
Responsibilities
The post holder will ensure that operations in Palembang are compliant with ZSL and the contractual agreement with the UK government.

Main duties and key responsibilities
- Develop and operate systems to support the smooth implementation of the project.
- Ensure communications and awareness of the project are delivered in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Organize and lead on establishment and implementation of the plan
- Identify risk and develop risk management framework including risk mitigation aspects
- Ensure that the project is adaptive and able to respond to changing needs
- Establish effective communication channels within the project and wider partnership
- Organize on establishment of and management of the various committees
- Develop working arrangements with agreed timelines and objectives with each of the projeCt partners
- Lead on designing the project delivery Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)
- Develop exit/transition wrap up plan will be designed and planned according to criteria such as government budgetary timelines
- Monitor the implementation of training program to staff and primary stakeholders, in coordination with other manager, ensuring the collected data quality are robust for scientific purposes and its validity are accountable and in line with social and environmental aspects
- Contributes to the preparation and timely submission to the donors of annual work plans as well as technical reports according to agreed ZSL standards.
- Undertake periodic review of the implementation and operation of the monitoring and reporting mechanism; including the preparation of best practices and lessons learned.

Flexibility

workshop is being organized the next day, some flexibility in working
hours may be required.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum master degree in Forestry, Biology or other natural science
- Minimum 7 years’ successful experience working in similar position with an international NGO
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, financial and organizational development skills, strong coaching skills and excellent analytical and financial planning skills
- Strong analytical and interpretative problem solving skills
- Self-motivated and resourceful, with the proven ability to multi-task and operate successfully under tight deadlines and time pressures
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong working relationship with stakeholders and the government Institutions
- Ideally some experience of writing scientific reports and papers
- Strong analytical skills in major database and statistical software
Knowledge
- Understanding about wildlife conservation, particularly in Indonesia is an advantage
- Knowledge of national and local government policies and regulations
Skills & Abilities
- Computer literacy (excellent IT skills); competent in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and other MS tools;
- Able to work independently without supervision but also accustomed to working in a team;
- Good communications skills - able to express complex information in a simple and succinct manner;
- Self-starter, pro-active and uses initiative - can work independently and priorities own work load;
- Preferably a high level of written and spoken English;
- Good oral, written, presentation and facilitation skills;
- Flexible and able to work under pressure and often to tight deadlines; including an ability to prioritize jobs;
- Highly motivated.
- Willing to work at any circumstances both independently or in a group, such as in remote areas with very limited facilities.
- Excellent in writing skills and oral communication both in Indonesian and English.
- Able to deal with tide schedule and unscheduled tasks, and target oriented
- Willing to travel extensively across the project sites in Indonesia
