The British Council in Indonesia is recruiting for the post of :
Project Officer - Newton Fund
1 (one) position, 1 year contract - renewable - Jakarta

Purpose of job:
To implement activities/projects under the British Council Newton Fund Programme Indonesia by working with partners, stakeholders and wider target audiences in Indonesia and the UK to meet the Newton Fund and British Council’s strategic objectives.

Context and environment: (e.g. dept description, region description, organogram)
The Newton Fund is part of the UK’s official development assistance programme which will provide £75 million each year from 2014 for five years in 15 countries. It is part of the Emerging Powers Research and Innovation Fund, to promote scientific capacity building in emerging economies on a match-funding basis. Indonesia has been included within the list of countries to benefit from the Fund and will receive around £2 million in total per year. Through the Newton Fund, the UK will use its strength in research and innovation to promote the economic development and welfare of partner countries.

The British Council Newton Team consists of a central Programme Management Team (based in the UK) and country officers based in each of the Newton Fund countries

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:In this role as the Project Officer - Newton Fund, you will implement activities/projects under the British Council Newton Fund Programme Indonesia by working with partners, stakeholders and wider target audiences in Indonesia and the UK to meet the Newton Fund and British Council’s strategic objectives.

Duties will include but not limited to support the Newton Fund Programme and team to deliver on agreements, especially on logistical arrangement, administration, and communication, as agreed with partners, sponsors and clients. The post-holder will also be expected to support the Newton Fund team in working with BC Indonesia MarComms team and national partners to publicize opportunities available under the Newton Fund in country as well as assist in communication and media coverage for Newton Fund activities.

Suitable applicants for this job will possess proven project management experience and bring along at least 1 year experience in delivering events with wide outreach/audience as well as targeted audience. The successful candidate will also come with minimum 2 years’ experience in finance and administration, preferably in an international partnership project.

Other Responsibilities and main duties
  • To provide wider financial and administrative support for the project team as requested;
  • To ensure accurate recording of all contacts in the CRM/local database system in consultation with the Newton Fund Senior Programme Manager and Newton Fund Programme Manager; 
  • To ensure all duties are delivered in line with the British Council’s policy on Equal Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and is taken into account when planning and delivering activity.
Manage information created and received in compliance with the British Council’s information management standards, policies, the UK data protection principles and local legislation.

  • Internal: Newton Senior Programme Manager and Programme Manager, counterparts in the UK 
  • External: Vendors, partners, stakeholders
