Finance Officer (FO) 2016

Summary
The Selamatkan Yaki conservation program is seeking to expand its program team to fulfill the aim of reducing the threats to Macaca nigra and their native habitat. To this end, an opening has emerged for a skilled individual to support the expansion of our program.

The Finance Officer (FO) will be largely responsible for assessing and redesigning the finance and accounting system for the program, and maintaining accurate records of all financial activity. The role will be based in North Sulawesi, Indonesia working directly with the current project team and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be qualified and experienced in multiple disciplines of accounts, preferably for a conservation or associated program, and possess strong communication skills.

Duration of contract: 1 year from starting date; with potential to extend subject to business need and funding availability

Probation period: 3 months

Intended Start date: March 2016

Location: Manado, Northern Sulawesi; traveling within the region (Minahasa) will be necessary.

Salary: High local rates; dependent on experience;

Benefits: 20 days annual leave, plus Indonesian public holidays.

Hours of work: Variable depending on job requirements, but expected to be about 40hr week over at least 5 days a week;

Reporting to: Programme Manager; Programme Secretary; Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust (WWCT)

Working with: SY field staff team; WWCT staff, researchers, and students, as well as collaborators (e.g. Sam Ratulangi University, other NGOs etc.) and stakeholders (e.g. local villagers, government officials, etc.).

Role
The FO will predominantly be enrolled to meet an increasing requirement for a standardized
accounts and finance system. Project Leaders will maintain their role of budget planning and verification for funds, but all finance input will be administered via the FO, based on standardized accounting operating procedures and management verification systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Drafting the blueprint of the new finance and accounting system for SY;
  • Transition from YNAB to Mango (Excel) based system or equivalent (open to suggestions
  • for integration of other software);
  • Improve overall finance accuracy and functionality through effective integration and
  • communication throughout workforce;
  • Maintaining accurate records of financial transactions in SY;
  • HR Payroll and Regulation;
  • Assistance and guidance in budgeting and forecasting;
  • Taxation and legal status requirement clarification;
  • Utilizing experience in International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS), to ensure a
  • cohesive and reliable system of recording and reporting financial transactions;
  • Generating monthly reports of overviews of each project, with a breakdown of
  • expenditure;
  • Assisting PM in the production of annual program reports.
Required skills and characteristics:
  • Fluent in Bahasa Indonesian;
  • Competent in English;
  • Experienced with maximizing overall business and finance function integrations;
  • Able to work independently, with initiative and autonomy;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • A proven track record of implementing bespoke accounts systems and maintaining
  • accurate records of all organizational expenses;
  • Excellent administrative skills including budgeting, forecasting, and report writing;
  • Good working knowledge of associated IT and accounting programs;
  • Relevant accounting, business or mathematics qualification;
  • Flexible and able to work in a dynamic environment.
Desirable skills and characteristics:
  • Able to write, speak and present with a high level of proficiency in English;
  • Familiar with conservation issues relating to Sulawesi (or Indonesia);
  • More advanced account skillsets such as HR Payroll and Regulation, taxation, auditing,
  • development of Standard Operating Procedures and Regulatory Compliance;
  • Full, clean driving license;
  • Experience working in Sulawesi.
