JOB VACANCY: Government Engagement Officer
The position if for one year, part-time, based in Jakarta. Salary and working times are negotiable and based on experience.
I-Fish consists of a cutting edge data platform, robust fishery
monitoring protocols, and clearly defined mechanisms for collaboration
between stakeholders. Together, these provide a sustainable source of
fisheries data to inform industry practices and management approaches.
MDPI aims to focus on the development and strengthening of the I-Fish
system within Indonesia, along with its partners and the government of
Indonesia. The focus for the coming year will be on institutionalization
of the I-Fish database with government, development and strengthening
of provincial Data Management Committees (DMCs), and expansion and
development of new data collection sites.
JOB FUNCTION: To engage with government departments and strengthen MDPI’s relationships with government representatives
POSITION SUMMARY: The Government engagement officer will be
responsible for ensuring MDPI has good relationships with government
officials and that MDPI and its objectives are represented well at the
various levels of government. The role will focus on and ensuring
government uptake of the I-Fish (database) and the I-Fish data
management committees system while also supporting acceptance and uptake
of other MDPI programs to the regulator. The role will encompass
relationship building, external and internal strategy and policy
development.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Communicate regularly with government agencies connected to I-Fish (SDI, P4KSI, P2HP, BKIPM)
- Communicate regularly with all MMAF departments related to MDPI work
- Support and engage provincial governments to establish additional Data Management Committees
- Represent MDPI at national and provincial level meetings, during which communicating MDPI approach and objectives
- Support the development and capacity building of DMCs
- Conduct regular Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and meetings with provincial and national government departments
- Contribute to the development of guidelines on I-Fish data ownership
- Contribute to the development of DMC establishment guidelines, through consultation with I-Fish guidelines
- Support continuous development and discussion by using the I-Fish working group
- Develop a capacity building approach for provincial governments
- Engage government discussions on potential institutionalization of various systems: I-Fish database, DMC and data ownership
- Support the development of I-Fish stakeholder reporting templates for government departments
- Coordinate with government at all levels and partners (The Nature Conservancy, The International Pole and Line Foundation).
BASIC RESULTS :
- Strengthen MDPI’s relationships with government departments and officials
- Advance I-Fish institutionalisation within government
- Capacity build and institutionalise the DMC system
- Developing a government contact network for MDPI
TYPE OF REPORTS:

Requirements: Government Engagement Officer
- MSc Degree: Fisheries or marine, Political science, Environmental law, Communications
- Minimum 5 years experience engaging with government, existing relationships with government departments within MMAF
- Strong fluency in English and Bahasa
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- In-depth understanding of government structure, Indonesian tuna fisheries management and international market demands
- Proven track record of advocacy success
- Awareness of the key policy issues facing tuna fisheries
- Independent, passionate and self-motivated individual
