Overview
WRI seeks a dedicated, analytical, results-oriented,
full-time Transport Planner/Urban Planner based in Indonesia to lead our
road safety and sustainable transport work in Indonesia in
collaboration with the Global transport team which conducts research on
sustainable transport and urban development, and supports projects in
Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, India, China and other places around the world.
The successful candidate will work with city governments to identify and
implement sustainable transport solutions and lead projects related to
road safety, sustainable mobility, public transport, non-motorized
transport and urban design. The projects will require working on topics
of transit planning and operations; road safety audits and inspections,
economic, social and environmental impact analysis of projects;
sustainable transport best practices, national policy and project
management.
The position is based in either Bandung or Jakarta,
Indonesia. It also offers the opportunity to connect with sustainable
mobility and urban development experts, and key stakeholders around the
world. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities
Research & Knowledge
- Serve as the point contact and lead for project implementation and research work of the transport program, with special focus on traffic safety, in Indonesia and for technical inputs liaise with WRI Global office and corresponding counterparts in other country offices.
- Lead and manage day-to-day research and project implementation. Prepare work plans, follow up on project implementation, prepare progress reports and among others. Conduct research, literature reviews and synthesize findings; Author knowledge products and produce reports, presentations highlighting findings.
- Lead in dissemination of research work to target audiences like policy makers, academia researchers, and industrial partners.
- Perform transport data collection, with special emphasis on traffic safety, verification, visualization, and analysis, both qualitative and quantitative;
- Research, document, evaluate, and analyze emerging trends, best practices, and policies in urban mobility, city planning and traffic safety.
- Support the maintenance and tracking of key performance indicators and work-plans on shared databases;
- Undertake field work as required, including inspections and audits.
Writing & Editing
- Contribute written and graphic content to publications, reports, papers, and presentations
- Support internal reviews of WRI Sustainable Cities publications
- Prepare project-related content for publication on WRI Sustainable Cities website.
Project Management
- Liaise with the city of Bandung as part of the Bloomberg initiative in 10 cities
- Liaise with WRI Cities Network members (DC, China, India, Turkey, Brazil and México) as well as partner institutions for data exchange, information requests and project coordination
- Process and execute project commitments through contracts, purchase orders etc.
- Organize internal and external conferences, meetings, events and other activities
Grants and Financial Management
- Manage project funding and budgets, draft grant proposals
- Prepare and send donor and project/grant status reports
Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in transport planning/engineering, or urban/regional planning with a focus on transportation
- Previous experience or research in urban transportation planning, road safety, non-motorized transport, road safety auditing or sustainable cities.
- Ideal candidate will have an understanding of Indonesian institutions and government agencies. Local experience is highly desirable.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and research skills
- Enthusiasm to work on sustainability issues and in developing countries.
- Detail-oriented and organized thinker.
- Ability to work well in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, juggle multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced, results oriented non-profit environment
- Experience with quantitative analysis of data with software such as Excel, STATA, and ability to learn new software and computer systems quickly
- Competence to undertake high-profile research assignments with minimal supervision
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Bahasa Indonesia and English fluency.
- Experience using ArcGIS or similar mapping software, or familiarity with at least one transport modelling software such as VISUM or TransCAD would be a plus.
- Some travel may be required.
Final candidate will be required to take a writing test.
