About NDI
We are an award-winning non-profit social enterprise founded in Singapore, with an office in Jakarta and Bali. 1 out of 4 Indonesians do not have access to a clean, safe and affordable source of light. Many rural women also do not have meaningful job opportunities. Our aim is to end energy poverty in rural Indonesia through women empowerment and technology, via our award-winning Ibu Rumah Terang Program (Mothers of Light Program). Our Mothers of Light have so far benefited over 13,000 rural beneficiaries across 30 villages in Indonesia with solar lights.

At NDI, we do ‘non-profit’ differently. We value innovative thinking coupled with the spirit of being able to get things done, and a business-like mindset to ensure that we are delivering the greatest impact in a sustainable, measurable and efficient manner.

The Nusantara Fellowship
The Fellowship is a highly selective, high impact program meant for outstanding young individuals below the age of 35 who want to make a change in society. The position is based in Jakarta, with regular travel to different parts of Indonesia. 2 types of Fellowships are available:
  • Junior Fellow (3 months contract position, targeted at those who are still deciding on a career choice)
  • Nusantara Fellow (1 year full-time position with staff benefits)
What will I be doing?
  • Implement and lead our Mothers of Light program in rural Indonesia, following the ‘NDI Way’ closely. In the process, you will empower rural women with meaningful jobs while also providing a clean, safe and affordable source of light to off-grid communities
  • Empower, mentor and motivate our Mothers of Light regularly, so that they can be effective agents of change in their communities
  • Travel to different parts of rural Indonesia to conduct energy surveys
  • Present and/or participate in suitable conferences and networking sessions in Indonesia and/or Singapore. Occasional travel to Singapore may be required
  • Selected Fellows will receive a salary of between 4 to 6 million rupiahs per month, depending on qualifications and working experience.
Who is NDI looking for?
  • Final year students who are in the top 20% of your cohort, postgraduate students or young professionals (below 35 years old)
  • Native speaker of Bahasa Indonesia and a good command of English
  • Superb interpersonal and leadership skills. Loves to engage people
  • Mature, resilient, driven and strong team-player (because individual brilliance will only get one so far. No genius ever works alone)
  • Possesses a high level of professional and personal integrity
  • Highly adaptable and comfortable working in highly challenging environments and managing uncertainty
  • Have some experience doing projects/work in rural Indonesia, or have some networks/contacts of areas with limited access to electricity, so that NDI can expand our work. These criteria are not compulsory but preferable to possess.
  • Passionate and a strong believer in the power and impact of rural women entrepreneurship (because passion drives perfection)
  • Fit, with no health problems
How to Apply
First, read our website (HERE) carefully to understand the work that we do. Ensure that you are also familiar with the idea of energy poverty, social enterprise and women empowerment (and how they are all inter-connected) and that these are areas you are highly interested and passionate in. You must also be able to commit for the duration of the Fellowship.

Then follow these steps:
  • Fill up the application form HERE
  • Send us your resume (maximum 2 pages). 3) Send us a short video (2 to 5 minutes) that explains why you are the best person for this Fellowship and your motivations for applying. The video has to be in Bahasa Indonesia and you should send us only the YouTube URL. The video need not be professionally made. It does however, have to be clear and audible. Tip: Use the video to highlight your strength, personality and how you fit into our requirements. But don’t oversell yourself. Be authentic.
The video must clearly show:
  • Your motivations for applying and what you hope to achieve at the end of the Fellowship
  • Why you think you are the most suitable candidate for the Fellowship
  • Do a Strengthsfinder test. We want to know you better so that we can pair you up with the right team member. Do the test HERE
  • Send your resume, YouTube link and a copy of your strengths test results to sayhello@ndi.sg with the subject title ‘Application for [Junior/Nusantara] Fellowship – [Your Name]’. All applications will be kept confidential.
Application closes 26 August 2015, 11.59pm (Singapore time).

We urge you to submit early as we expect a large pool of candidates to apply. This will give us time to assess your application and clarify early on if there is any missing data or incomplete information.

Shortlisted applicants will be called for an interview on an ongoing basis (this means that if we spot a relevant candidate, we will call you up for an interview earlier instead of after the deadline. This prevents the process from being too slow and helps you get an answer from us earlier, rather than later).

We look forward to welcoming you to our NDI family!
