Jakarta. Our aim is to end energy poverty in rural Indonesia through women empowerment and technology via our award-winning Ibu Rumah Terang Program (Mothers of Light Program).

NDI has recently established our Ideas Lab and we are looking for exceptionally driven and
passionate candidates to fill the following roles for this new department:

A) Assistant Product Manager

B) Qualitative Market Researcher (Intern)

About NDI Ideas Lab
NDI Ideas Lab is a new incubator space within NDI to test and execute new ideas under the
broad theme of Women, Technology and Social Impact. Utilizing design thinking as the core
methodology, the Ideas Lab will focus on the nexus between technology, women empowerment (in both rural and urban areas; for Singapore and Indonesia) and social impact. In Year 1, the Ideas Lab will work on a project focusing on women in Singapore and an online platform focusing on social impact in Indonesia and Singapore. The lab will also strengthen our existing Ibu Rumah Terang Program in rural Indonesia.

Vacancies for NDI Ideas Lab

A) Assistant Product Manager

(This is a local hire and based in Jakarta, with regular travel to Singapore)

Working under the Executive Director, the Assistant Product Manager will engage our
intended users (women), generate insights to improve the user experience; and implement an outreach and marketing plan to reach out to them persuasively. In short, you will be the
ambassador for our projects.
  • At least 1-2 years professional experience in marketing or product development. Fresh graduates with relevant skills and who are in the top 25% of their cohort are welcomed to  
  • A strong understanding of consumer needs and insights 
  • Intermediate to Advanced English proficiency (spoken and written) 
  • Strong team player 
  • Superb interpersonal and leadership skills. Loves to engage and understand people 
  • Possess a high level of professional and personal integrity 
  • A ‘can-do’ spirit. You are comfortable with uncertainty and get things done. 
  • Passionate and strongly believe in the role of technology to make social impact

B) Qualitative Market Researcher (Intern)(This position is for Singapore-based candidates only and interns must be able to commit for a minimum of 2 months. Interns should be in the final year of university studies)

Working under the Executive Director, the qualitative market researcher will embark on a research project to understand in deep detail the lives of our intended users (women) and the role of technology in their lives. Based on these insights, you will develop and implement an actionable marketing plan to engage the users.
  • A background in one or more of the following disciplines: sociology, anthropology, behavioral economics, marketing. Experience in Design Thinking is preferred although  
  • Expected to graduate with at least 2nd class Lower (Honors) 
  • Advanced English proficiency (spoken and written) 
  • Strong team player 
  • Superb interpersonal skills. Loves to engage and understand people 
  • Possess a high level of personal integrity 
  • A ‘can-do’ spirit. You are comfortable with uncertainty and get things done 
  • Passionate and strongly believe in the role of technology to make social impact 
  • Willingness to learn

C) Software Engineer (Based in Jakarta. This is a local hire.)
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop meaningful IT solutions for projects under NDI Ideas Lab and enhancing the Ibu Rumah Terang Program 
  • Documents and demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code 
  • Updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and participating in educational opportunities 
  • Develops software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with users, studying systems flow, data usage and work processes, investigating problem areas and following the software development lifecycle
Technical Skills (Preferable. On top of the essential skills)
Familiarity with agile software development process
Familiarity with usability/user experience
Some experience with mobile application: Android Native App or IOS Native App
