Save the Children in Indonesia is seeking
to fill the following position:
Senior Specialist Clinical Mentor - EMAS
3 positions based in South Sulawesi, Central Java, and East Java

Role purpose:
The
Expanding Maternal and Neonatal Survival (EMAS) project is a five year
USAID-funded project that seeks to reduce maternal and newborn mortality
in Indonesia. It focuses on improving the quality of emergency
obstetric and
newborn care provided by hospitals and Puskesmas and on strengthening
referral systems that transfer sick mothers and newborns between
facilities. EMAS works in 30 districts across 6 provinces.
The Clinical Mentor will focus
on improving the quality of emergency obstetric and newborn care and
clinical services in the referral system between hospitals and
puskesmas/private practice at the district. Working closely with the
Quality Improvement Coordinator
staff at district level with oversight by Jakarta-based technical
advisors, he/she will manage all clinical activities at the district
level and will assist with implementation of specific EMAS Project
activities including: facility level quality improvement
initiatives through on site mentoring and training, clinical
governance, and adaptation of training and mentoring materials as
needed. In addition, the Clinical Mentor will work together with
district level EMAS staff to build relationships with regional
facility staff, District Health Offices, local community organizations
and community and professional leaders in ensuring the provision of
quality emergency obstetric and neonatal care at the hospital and
puskesmas/private practice.
Reports to: Clinical Advisor and Provincial Team Leader
Dimension: The Clinical Mentor will work together with district level EMAS staff to build relationships with regional facility staff, District Health Offices, local community organizations and community and professional leaders
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
1. Represent EMAS clinical focus
and values within partner facilities through evidence-based
patient-centered medical care delivery using EMAS clinical tools and
processes.
2. Ensure application of facility
based clinical governance guidelines including performance of near miss
and death audits and monitoring improvements in adherence to clinical
standards.
3. Ensure implementation of EMAS clinical interventions through on the job training and mentorship.
4. Participate in daily rounds, night call and patient sign out including during weekends.
5. Assist in the implementation of
quality improvement activities including workshops, facility
assessments and equipping and reorganizing medical wards.
6. Work with EMAS staff to track relevant clinical data and results of project activities
7. Participate in EMAS related clinical meetings and exercises with facility staff
8. Assist in reporting on and following up clinical service gaps identified in LKBK-facility mentoring assessment (RTL).
9. Develop and maintain excellent relationships with colleagues and partners in hospital and district
10. Submit monthly EMAS clinical progress reports as directed by Jakarta clinical team
· Clinical degree as doctor
· Minimum of five years of experience as practitioner with preference towards qualified clinical trainers
· Ability to manage maternal and newborn medical emergencies and to care for the neonate
· Ability to mentor and train others
· Strong character including drive to learn, willingness to accept feedback and sound work ethic· Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, tackle and report on problems in coordination with a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
· Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and pressure to perform.
· Demonstrated ability to take initiative
· Strong interpersonal writing and oral presentation communication skills in both Bahasa Indonesian and in English· Experience working with international non-profit organizations
· Ability and willingness to travel to designated facilities within the district as needed
