Jakarta
Program
Coordinator
PROGRAM SUMMARY:
Mercy Corps’ Agri-Fin Mobile program (Agri-Fin) “bundles”
mobile phone-based services for smallholder farmers, resulting in increased
productivity and incomes. Services
offered include agricultural advisory services such as weather data, market
pricing and good agricultural practices delivered via SMS, along with financial
services such as value chain payments, loans, micro insurance and savings.
Agri-Fin was highlighted for its potential for far-reaching impact at the
Clinton Global Initiative 2012 annual meeting as a featured commitment to
action. Agri-Fin aims to increase the
income of 180,000 low-income farmers in Indonesia ,
Uganda and Zimbabwe by at
least 30% within the first three years (2013-15) of the program.
Agri-Fin was designed to close the information and
services gap that exists for many rural farmers. Lack of access to information
and financial services can keep smallholder farmers from emerging from poverty.
But through mobile technology we can reach even the most remote farms and
deliver services to farmers to help them thrive. We envision a world of
millions of mobile-equipped smallholder farmers conducting business, accessing
technical information and utilizing financial services to build successful
agribusinesses that feed the world and lift farmers permanently out of poverty.
This program will add
an important business and financial literacy component to Agri-Fin targeting
female farmers in Indonesia .
Training will be delivered both through in-person sessions and through Android
applications, using our proven curricula. The Business and Financial Literacy
for Female Farmers Initiative will enable 20 female extension workers and 200
female farmers to increase their business and financial literacy to improve the
productivity of their farms and success of their agribusinesses.
By the
end of the grant period, 20 female extension workers will be trained to work with
female farmers on financial and business literacy. 200 female smallholder
farmers will successfully complete the business and financial literacy training
and will have the tools needed to either expand or strengthen their existing
businesses. 25% or more will have the knowledge and skills to successfully
start or expand a business. 12.5% of program participants will be monitored
over a longer period of time to track the impact of the intervention beyond the
life of the program.

program design and workplan, including training and communication strategies. Develop
