KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis (TB), still the second most deadly infectious disease in the world. KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation has a strong reputation in national and international TB control. KNCV is an international centre of expertise for TB control that promotes effective, efficient, innovative and sustainable tuberculosis control strategies in a national and international context. We are an organization of passionate TB professionals, including doctors, researchers, training experts, nurses and epidemiologists. We aim to stop the spread of the worldwide epidemic of TB and to prevent the further spread of drug-resistant TB. As a non-profit international organization, KNCV is active in over 40 countries in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia. The central office is located in The Hague, The Netherlands. KNCV Indonesia consists of a dynamic team of over 90 staff members working in 10 provinces in Indonesia, all to help combat tuberculosis in Indonesia in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health.Challenge TB
KNCV is the lead partner in Challenge TB (CTB), the new USAID-funded 5-year global program to decrease TB mortality and morbidity in high burdened countries. We lead an international consortium with eight partner organizations: American Thoracic Society (ATS), Family Health International (FHI 360), Interactive Research & Development (IRD), Japanese Anti Tuberculosis Foundation (JATA), Management Sciences for Health (MSH), Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH), The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), and the World Health Organization. The overarching strategic objectives of Challenge TB are to improve access to quality patient centred care for TB, TB/HIV, and MDR-TB services; to prevent transmission and disease progression; and to strengthen TB platforms.
Currently KNCV is looking for a: Media and Communications Officer
Duty Station: Representative Office, Jakarta
She/he will coordinate all KNCV media and communication activities, promoting Challenge TB and effectively raising awareness about TB, enhancing USAID and KNCV’s profile, as well as ensuring the necessary “branding” is always used on external documents.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Play a key role in supporting the SI & KM Coordinator in the development of a coherent in country media and communication strategy, coordinating activities in such that they maintain effective links within country and with HO.
- Play a key role in supporting the SI & KM Coordinator in managing all KNCV Indonesia’s media work.
- Take a lead in building and maintaining relations with Indonesian media outlets (e.g. TV, radio, newspapers, etc.), establishing media alliances are required and maintaining a media database.
- Take a lead in monitoring the Indonesian media, both to spot opportunities for KNCV and to assist with providing regular summary information and updates, overviews regarding KNCV/Challenge TB, its partners, and their activities in the media.
- Play a key role in supporting campaigns and advocacy activities by developing media strategies, establishing key messages, writing press releases when necessary and identify media stories/angles to pitch to the media in support KNCV / Challenge TB’s program in Indonesia.
- Develop strong interesting articles about TB / Challenge TB, opinion pieces, success stories and Human Interest Stories, attending Challenge TB activities, visiting the field and conducting interviews as required.
- Support the development of appropriate education materials
- Establish a protocol for external document / material approval ensuring that any information to be shared externally is accurate and that documents / materials (including banners and back drops) are correctly branded.
- Develop and ensure the implementation of a KNCV Photo Policy.
- Maintain KNCV Indonesia’s website ensuring that it updated weekly
- Develop monthly internal newsletters for KNCV staff and quarterly external newsletters for partners and key stakeholders
- As part of the KNCV Media and Communication Strategy identify and manage appropriate ways of using social media – blogs, facebook, twitter, SMS to raise awareness about TB, Challenge TB and KNCV.
- Provide a timely response/be available outside business hours to deal with any media enquiries / issues.
- Provide event management support for KNCV/Challenge TB’s popular campaigning activities.
- Take a lead in supporting staff in KNCV Provincial Offices in the development of media activities in country through training and in providing quality information and analysis related to media activities
- At least 5 years experience working as a journalist or public relations consultant/media officer in a non-government organization or private company.
- University Degree in media, communication or other relevant discipline
- Exceptional news-sense and an ability to react quickly to maximize media opportunities to promote KNCV / Challenge TB in the media.
- Analytical skills with knowledge and good understanding on global and national development issues.
- Proven extensive contact with editors and journalists from media throughout Indonesia.
- Exceptional written and oral communication / presentation skills, in both Bahasa Indonesia and English
- Familiar with digital publications software
- Ability to create a supportive working environment amongst all staff
- Ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team and independently
- Motivated, proactive and willing to learn
- Ability to meet critical deadlines
- Strong Computer Skills (Adobe Photoshop or other design tools, etc.)
- Willingness to work flexible hours and to travel frequently within country and overseas.
