World Agroforestry Centre Vacancy: LUMENS User Interface Programmer, To Be Based In Bogor

The World Agroforestry Centre (also known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry or ICRAF) is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.

The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 34 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.

About the position
LUMENS User Interface Programmer will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, ecological modelers, land use planning specialists, land scientists, economists, and social scientists to design and develop graphical user interface for Land Use Planning for Multiple Environmental Services (LUMENS). He/she will work closely with NRM Tool Programmer for building, testing and documenting the process of LUMENS user interface development and under close collaboration with relevant scientists and other potential users. 
Duties and Responsibilities:
LUMENS User Interface Programmer will be responsible in:
  • Designing, developing, testing and finalizing graphical user interface for analytical modules within LUMENS. This will include but not limited to: 
    • Designing data input workflow and interface for all modules in LUMENS 
    • Building interactive graphical user interface for scenario development 
    • Conduct comprehensive testing of the user interface 
  • Designing, developing, testing and finalizing result viewer for all LUMENS modules. This will include but not limited to: 
    • Design interactive result viewer 
    • Design reporting mechanism for LUMENS modules

Requirements
  • Minimum Diploma degree in computer programming or information and technology. 
  • Experienced in developing graphical user interface and effective communication skills.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Vast and strong knowledge on C++ programming language; familiar with geographical information system (GIS) is an advantage. 
  • Have a skill in communication among different levels of stakeholders
  •  Able to work independently as well as being a team player.
  • Well organized; able to meet deadlines.
  • Good English command (passive English). 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in multicultural teams.
