Vacancy in Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) : Project Officer for Yogyakarta

Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) is one of Germany’s oldest and largest social welfare organisations with over 200 offices and a membership of 1.2 million. ASB has been working in Indonesia in partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs since 2006.
ASB’s work in Indonesia focuses on inclusive community empowerment to reduce risks and build resilience and self-reliance. The provision of technical assistance to government implementing partners is also a core focus of our work. ASB’s Indonesia Office is an innovator in the delivery of large-scale community and school-based DRR projects and is a co-founder of the DiDRRN network. The office is actively engaged at the regional and international DRR policy levels with a particular focus on ensuring inclusion post-HFA.
ASB is currently seeking expressions of interest from qualified and committed individuals for the following position:

Project Officer: Inclusion and Technical Capacity Building

Location: Yogyakarta, Indonesia with travel in-country.
Duration: 12 months (with possible extension)
Start: 1 October 2014 (provisional)
Position: National Intermediate (2 positions)
Salary: ASB offers a competitive salary package commensurate with experience
Deadline: 17th September 2014 

Summary of job profile:
The position relates to an institutional donor funded consortium project. The aim of the project is to build the technical capacity of local disaster risk management officials in select provinces in Indonesia. ASB is to provide the inclusion component within the overall project. This is to include the design and delivery of relevant trainings and workshops, technical support and compliance concerning the inclusion of highly at-risk, and often excluded, groups including persons with disabilities.

Required competencies:
  • Degree, or similar professional qualification, in relevant subject. 
  • Minimum 3 years of training and capacity building experience. 
  • Training content and material development experience. 
  • Proven experience of working with a range of stakeholders and excellent representation skills.
  • Sound understanding of DRR/DRM in the Indonesian context and emerging trends. 
  • Sound understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of inclusion.
  • Experience of working on disability issues preferred. 
  • A solid grounding on gender or age (children/youth, elderly persons) related issues may be advantageous. 
  • First rate organizational and reporting skills. Fluency in Indonesian and working knowledge of English. 
  • Ability to think critically and work both independently and as part of a team required. 
  • Creativity and the ability to seek practical solutions an advantage.
