Tetra Tech ARD is currently accepting expressions of interest for the Oil Palm Coordinator, Jakarta based on our USAID Indonesia Forestry and Climate Support Project (USAID IFACS).
USAID
IFACS seeks to reduce the threats of deforestation and climate change,
and help the Government of Indonesia (GOI) conserve the country’s
tropical forests, wildlife, and ecosystem processes (including carbon
sequestration).
JOB SUMMARY:
The
purpose of this assignment is to bring a higher level of engagement
between IFACS and the oil palm sector, and to facilitate the development
of consultative frameworks and improved monitoring and implementation
of standards that reduce deforestation and reduce risk of conflict
between concession holders and communities.
This
scope of work will support the improved management of lands determined
to High Conservation Value (HCV) and improved management relations
between concessions and communities.
S/he will report to the Private Sector Coordinator.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
- Coordinate a review of the implementation of HCV assessment and standards according to Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) standards. This will involve liaising with RSPO Jakarta and HCV Network. Identify areas of possible improvement and needs for capacity building that IFACS can provide;
- Coordinate the planning, preparation, and execution of an IFACS sponsored workshop in Jakarta regarding: HCV Assessments for Oil Palm Plantations—Issues, Performance, and Ways to Improve;
- Liaise with oil palm concessionaires in the IFACS landscape to develop good working relationships. If needed, provide training to the concessionaires on Social Impact Assessments (SIA);
- Communicate all developments throughout the project with all key partners;
- Collaborate with landscape multi-stakeholder forums and seek opportunities to improve community relationships with oil palm concessions;
- Other tasks as determined by the Private Sector Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):
- University degree in related discipline (e.g. ecology, forestry, economics)
- Five years’ relevant work experience;
- Preferable has experience in working with natural resource concessionaires or oil palm concession as part of their community outreach/sustainability team;
- Preferable has experience in working with a civil society organization focused on oil palm, biodiversity conservation and/or forest people’s rights;
- Good knowledge of socio-economic and cultural issues of local forest communities adjacent to natural resource concessions;
- Able to conduct rapid social impact assessments and train others on these assessments;
- Demonstrated expert knowledge of the oil palm sector, and forests, biodiversity, environmental services and Climate Change issues;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Native fluency in spoken and written Indonesian;
- Professional competency in spoken and written English;
- Ability to engage in activities occurring in multiple field sites with multiple stakeholders across Indonesia;
- Able to work independently in the field with minimal supervision;
- Willingness to travel extensively in Indonesia.
