As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.
 
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 34 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.

About the position
In close coordination with the Southeast Asia (SEA) Management Services Leader, the Finance Manager is responsible for managing the Finance functions in Southeast Asia region. The incumbent provides supervision to the finance staff in accordance with the work plan, aligned with the organizational strategy as well as the goals and strategic needs of the region and country offices.

As head of the Financial Services Unit in the region composed of 5 country offices and a total annual budget of approximately US$ 10 million, the incumbent has the following primary duties:
  • Provide financial advice to the Senior Management 
  • Maintain and run the financial management systems, oversee and handle internal and external reporting requirements and establish financial internal controls to protect the Center/SEA  assets and resources 
  • In close coordination with the SEA Management Services Leader, supervise the preparation of budgets for project proposals, review the financial aspects of contracts with donors and collaborating countries and institutions
  • In close coordination with the SEA Management Services Leader, plan, coordinate and ensure the preparation of the budget for the Center’s annual POWB and its revisions, and communicate approved POWB to country offices and accountants in charge of respective countries for  budget implementation and monitoring 
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the long- and short-term financial plans for the Center 
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reports required by the Center/HQ, donors and other stakeholders 
  • In close coordination with the SEA Management Services Leader, coordinate with the Functional Unit Leaders (FULs) Human Resources Unit, Proposal Development Unit (HQ), Contracts and Grants (CGO-HQ and Financial Management Unit (HQ), Country Offices/Coordinators/Administrators, and other relevant offices regarding budget preparation, grant revenue projections, staff costs, comparative data and other accounting information 
  • Responsible for administration of all aspects of project accounting and budget accounting for the SEA and country offices, including maintaining databases and lists, compliance to reporting schedules and donor requirements, and all necessary coordination to support the work duly supported by the SEA accountants and country administrators across the region

Requirements
  • Registered Accountant with minimum education Master degree (S-2) in Accounting. 
  • Minimum of 5 (five) years of relevant Accounting experience is required at the national or international level, preferably in not-for-profit organization, in accounting supervisory position and grant management. 
  • Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and experience in using SUN systems is desirable. 
  • Experience in project management.
