Introduction:  World Education (WE) is a US-based Non-Governmental Organization that supports social and economic development programs for the poor in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.  WE has been active in the Indonesian archipelago since 1991 where it has completed a wide variety of programs around agricultural support, natural resource management, conservation, basic education support, and support to disadvantaged youth.  Along with FAO, WE pioneered the farmer field school methodology in Indonesia, and the organization continues to work using this technique to support small holder farmers to increase their yields and adapt to climate change.

Project:  Dezenvolve Agricultura Communaria (DAC) is a USAID-funded project administered by DAI that seeks to develop the horticulture value chain in Timor Leste as a way to improve the economic and social livelihoods of farming households.
In 2013, World Education assisted DAC to complete Farmer Field School (FFS) for horticulture production and IPM.  The program included Training of Trainers for DAC staff and participating farmers, and implementation of FFS for 12 farmer groups.  This activity targeted farmers undergoing the transition from subsistence/livelihoods farming to commercial farming, and was completed in a highly professional manner yielding excellent sustainable results on the ground.

In 2014, DAC plans to deliver FFS with the focus on horticulture production and IPM in fifteen additional communities.  Three of those communities are existing DAC farmer groups that have been working with the program for one year and are located in the same general area of Aileu District.  Twelve of those communities are new, inexperienced groups that DAC plans to start working with in May 2014, and will be located in new Districts
