Conservation International, an international
non-governmental organization, is seeking to fill the position of Conservation Coordinator to be based in Mandailing Natal/Tapanuli Selatan.
The Sustainable Landscapes
Partnership (SLP) program will establish a replicable model of public-private
partnerships that foster low carbon development opportunities, thereby helping
to address global climate change and contribute to economic growth.
The
Conservation Coordinator (CC) is responsible for supporting SLP activity
related to reducing/sequestering GHG emission in forest landscapes. It is a
middle staff positions as SLP representatives in SLP district targeted areas
particularly in Madina district. The CC reports directly to the Sumatera
Program Manager and closely work with other SLP Thematic Teams: Ecosystem
Services, Communication, Livelihoods, Grants and Public-Private-Partnerships
(PPP).
Responsibilities:
1.
Project
Development and Implementation
a.
Engage with MOF and
the Batang Gadis National Park management agency (BGNP) in Madina on
requirements and options to strengthen monitoring and enforcement of forest
management regulations, including for example the scope to provide training in
monitoring, enforcement and conflict resolution; contribute to providing
equipment, training and capacity building (e.g. radios, GPS, camera traps); and
engage civil society (e.g. local NGOs and communities) to assist BGNP in
monitoring and reporting;
b.
Confirm with
MOF/BGNP and the relevant District governments the proposed means for SLP to
strengthen monitoring and enforcement for protected forests, and establish the
working arrangements, including monitoring and evaluation systems for these
inputs;
c.
Provide agreed
means of support, and manage implementation, through Conservation Agreements
with local communities, and in close collaboration with relevant district
agencies;
d.
Engage with mining
or other private operation interests on conservation measures for high
biodiversity areas in target districts
e.
Assist the SLP
divisions in developing the thematic inputs, such as HVC and watershed areas,
carbon stocks, sustainable livelihoods and ‘green’ economic development.
2. Project
Reporting and Administration
a. Ensure that monthly, bi-annual and annual
reports are submitted on time for review;
b. Assist M&E SEA systems are in place.
c. Ensure that field expenses are allowable
and in line with budget proposals and USAID regulations.
d.
Consider innovative
ways of capturing and communicating key program successes and achievements
3. Capacity
Building and Partnerships
a. Partnership with local community, NGOs and
private sectors to get their inputs to Conservation SEA document.
b. Promote experience-based learning processes
and policy feedback loops/mechanisms with the SLP field programs and partner
government, private sector, and civil society organizations;
Qualifications:
Required:
•
Degree in forestry, biology, ecology and natural
resource management-related science;
•
Experience in developing conservation management
with a minimum 5 years of experience;
•
Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural
situations with a wide range of people in both the public and private sectors,
including business, government, non-governmental organizations, donor
organizations, local communities, consultants and volunteers;
•
Knowledge and background in the customs and
government organizations of Indonesia;
•
Willingness to travel and work long hours,
including work in arduous field conditions, often to remote areas and work
weekends and after hours as needed;.
•
Proven record of success as part of
interdisciplinary project teams;
•
Good communication skills and develop network;
•
Fluent in English (Speaking, Reading and
Writing);
• Computer literate;
Preferred
• Have a good scientific
knowledge of conservation and sustainable natural resources management.
